I recommend a heavy hammer and some sharpened spikes.

And give het a few minutes to take in her crucifixion and she will wish to forget the sign being nailed to the stipe...

...but really does it matter??? Her fate is sealed....

One thing I learned from my carpentry experience is that large spikes with sharp points will often split seasoned wood. Railroad spikes have a chisel point for a reason; you turn them across the grain so they cut the fibers rather than spread them apart..

There's a large psychological component to crucifixion in my opinion. Depending on the victim herself, having her name and crime displayed to everyone who happens to see her there naked and suffering for that crime could really weigh on her. And as you say, for some it might matter not at all.

I don't what kind of wood you have used but in my experience a sharp spike rarely splits wood worse than a dull spike. As for how the condemned reacts I have never and will never nail anyone to a cross so it is all allowed to be how my mind sees it...

Only taps but the entire cross transmits each hit through wood of her cross to spikes that tortures her wrists feet and reverberates in her muscles and joints...
I don't know whether a victim would actually have noticed the distinct new pain of the nails vibrating in her wounds, but I wouldn't be surprised.
There's sometimes the assumption that the extremity of pain in a crucifixion will dull the sensitivity to it but I'd believe the opposite. Just as when you see nothing, and your world consists only of sounds, you quickly learn to distinguish them finely... when the world consists of only pain... but many different dimensions of it... you will notice each new distinction... and not all pain is of the kind that numbs, or can recede to the background.
I've thought that when firmly fixed and joined to the cross, and that cross itself is firmly planted in a solid ground (like stone)... perhaps even vibrations from around would be transmitted up through the cross, the nails, into the world of my pain. Such as the boots of soldiers marching by striking the ground, or the cross of another arriving victim dragging their cross, and falling to the ground with it...

Great observation except you are not 'victims".

Do they say that just to annoy me???

Tree

you are not 'victims".
the victor is the one who does the conquering and the victim is the one who is conquered. Both from the same root.

So you say, Sir Tree, if I am not a victim... that I remain unconquered even on the cross?

It sure doesn't feel like that.

Oh, if dull heads happen to proclaim me a martyr through some misunderstanding, people will romanticize it like that many lifetimes later. But that's just not what it feels like. I'm utterly conquered and thus ... a victim!

'Vanquished' and 'victim' are not synonymous words....

Pick your sides carefully...

Tree

(I do wish to say in this modern world that I do not believe there are no victims as there have been throughout history... There just are none here...:doh::doh:)

I have been roped ... the nail ... is an other thing.

Ropes let you move ... twist and you still feel that you can live another day.

NAILS DON'T!!!!!

I'm not sure how to say what I mean ... but hanging or hanging without grabbing ...

it's the first step in the mental drift.

Before you ................. just go!

I would say the nails would give you more freedom of movement that ropes bound tight enough to suspend you and if Connie really showed up to rescue you in today's modern world of medicine you would have a better chance of using your hands and feet if you hanged nailed for six hours.... just don't show up at the ER during flu season... It is not a pleasant thing!!!

I don't know how much actual woodworking experience you have to go on, but I'm not going solely on my own experience. Google the phrase "sharp nails split wood" and see how many hits you get.

Long minutes drag by that seem like hours to Sabina as the cramps knot her thighs. She writhes and screams helplessly in agony, and when they finally subside, she hangs limp and exhausted by her nailed wrists. The executioner's helpers ignore her screams as they go about the business of rolling up rope and checking nails to be sure that they won't work loose during the days of struggling that Sabina has ahead of her.

She turns her head to stare at the horrible sight of her wounded wrist with the big iron spike protruding from it and her blood dribbling down her forearm. It is still surreal to her, a nightmare that can't be happening.

Beside her cross, the executioner grins appreciatively at the sight of his handiwork. While crucifying her, he has been focused on positioning this girl correctly on the timbers, driving the nails through her wrists and feet, setting the cornu that will penetrate her when she surrenders to it. Now, like any good craftsman, he steps back to look at his finished work. He savors the sight of her naked body stretched out on the cross, the sheen of her sweat, her soft breasts quivering with every ragged breath. He laughs at the way she stares at the nail in her wrist as if she just discovered that was there.
This is an awesome series! I'd love to see the same scene, but with the boy who is the executioner getting crucified!

The "cut" nail is still being used although not as much as before but it was the standard for just that reason. Am I right? Jed?

Believe me, Tree!
I wasn't talking about safety. The nail is not only psychologically more devastating but is a completely different state.
The nerves and tendons torn ... yes!
But you are free hanging and at the same time fastened. I mentioned many times in my posts, not being able to hold or touch! Ropes allow you to move your fingers and flex them.

It's a completely different sensation.

Pivoting freely as you hang, twist, rise and drop only increases the feeling of total hopelessness.

I would stare at the nail in horror as soon I realized I had lost my hands forever!

Damn Siss those are wicked looking!!!

But while you might have use of hands and fingers for a while ropes will quickly cut off the flow of blood. Tree recommends if want to play the crux game do invest in a good set of suspension cuffs. They are not cheap but worth the safety...

Tree

Just to make a point!
You see that she is holding on!!!!!???

The perfect crux cuff would have a bolt and / or eye at the back of the wrist that could hooked to the cross.

I have given this much thought, Tree!

Jedakk,

Your Sabina series is so relentlessly brutal and erotic...it leaves me breathless and sooo wanting to be in her place!

The image of Sabina staring up her arm to see the nail through her wrist is powerful beyond words!

Magnificent! All of it!!! Bravo!

Mostly cut nails are used nowadays for restoration purposes more than superior holding power, less tendency to split wood, etc. Their blunt points definitely tend to break the fibers of the wood rather than just spread them apart, and that helps to avoid splitting. But they will certainly split wood if you don't turn them so their tapered side runs parallel to the wood's grain rather than across it - get that wrong and it's like driving a little wedge into the wood.

Mostly what I was taught to do, and still do, was to hit the point of a nail with a hammer to blunt it before driving it through relatively thin wood like molding or trim. Some of the references that popped up when I did the Google search I mentioned above talked about doing this very thing.

Thanks, I always thought that actually looking at those nails sticking out of your wrists and feet would be a special kind of horror for a victim. There's kind of a finality to it, a symbol of the fact that there's no going back, all hope is gone, and that there is not the least possibility of escape any longer. Now there's nothing to look forward to but the relief of death.

Tree was in his shop and noticed all the nails and brads for his various air-nail guns are indeed blunt-tipped. This does not deter Tree from sharpening spikes as Messaline's Premium Crucifixion Wood is known to resist splitting and makes any crucified woman look even better!!!

Tree

...what Ulrika??? The 2015 Nailus Martyrs Christmas catalog came in???

With the setting of her titulus at the top of her cross, Sabina's executioners have completed the work of crucifying her and she has begun the slow agonized struggle that will wring her life out, drop by drop. Now all of her weight hangs by the cold iron nails driven through her wrists and feet; her only possibility of any rest will come when she is desperate enough to fit the horn of the cornu between her legs either into her rectum or vagina; and the final humiliation is the sign above her head that tells everyone who she is and what she did to deserve this punishment.

Julia Lepida remarks on how many have died on this cross, and how the nail holes from their crucifixions are all beyond her fingertips and below her feet. She is the smallest of all of the victims who have agonized their lives away on this cross.

These timbers had held many tortured criminals and slaves before her; the gods only knew how many, but there were at least a dozen nail holes in the broad patches of dried blood beyond her fingertips and twice that many in the blood-soaked wood below her toes. Those who had struggled their lives out on this cross had all been much larger than either of us.

She and I had watched many crucifixions back in Pompeii, but those were all slaves and criminals that meant nothing to us, a morning’s entertainment. As horrible as the cross was, everyone accepted its torture as the fitting punishment for slaves, the slower the better, with death merely being the end of their punishment. A victim who died after suffering only two days on the cross was said to have died rather quickly.
