This can help...

So, I've installed DAZ 4.9
First image was rendered in DAZ 4.8
Second image was rendered in DAZ 4.9

No changes... Just different program version

The second one looks like it might be a ray-traced render vs maybe not in the first one, as it exhibits hard shadows. It would actually be better if you rendered EXACTLY the same scene in both so we can be sure what we're looking at. It's clear that there is at least one spotlight in the first one; we can see its reflection in the floor and wall. In the second one, it looks to me like it might be an infinite light coming from above and to her left - our right. Are these two scenes actually lit the same way?

The 2nd one appears better to simulate indirect daylight ... but a shader should NOT replace a proper light set-up !

I agree with Jedakk: the work with light is one of the most important features to work on (added with camera settings) ! ... and also those which are usually neglected  ...

I decided to add in this topic all the animated gifs I put elsewhere before, so my apologies to those who already know them !

inferno-03test01.gif

inferno-03test02.gif

Reminder : All are low resolution extracts of an animation I made a few years ago with Victoria 2 character.

Above: 3 different light setup (in VUE) for the same animation made with Poser.

I realize that we are not conducting a poll here, but I myself really have a strong preference for the lighting in the middle render (daylight scene) as all aspects of the scene are depicted with such clarity and appear more lifelike. While the whole story may take place in hell, I prefer daylight crucifixions. Never-the-less, the whole depiction is fantastic, mood lighting and all.

Naked demons are a lot easier to work with than Roman soldiers with clothing that needs to drape and fold against the other figures and objects in the scene. Put them in the poses these demons are in and it would be a nightmare to get their clothing to look right.

I concede the point, unless of course we had naked Roman soldiers, and they wouldn't hold any interest to me anyway. Just kidding. About the naked Roman soldiers that is. There is only one subject that holds 100 % of my interest and that is done superbly.

I like the sinister low light and heavy, constantly moving shadows,
the girl's writhing, struggling body shines out in the gloom

I couldn't agree with Eulalia more, especially with the girl's writhing, struggling body and how the girl's sweat shines out in the gloom. I can't describe it accurately enough but the sweat and it's sheen just add that final special touch and captivate my eyes.

Yes, but in that case, the demons should be replaced by roman soldiers for example !

To be continued ...

OMG! OMG! OMG!

What incredible animations! How can I connect with this young woman? So terrified as she's held down and stretched out by brute force. I so, so want to feel myself vainly struggling against their powerful grips. Then to feel the nail pressed into my wrist and pounded through my flesh!:eek::eek:

That last gif is just too intense! To watch that nail be pounded through her wrist and into the wood!!! Wow!! I'm flush and tingling all over! Oh, to imagine -- to experience -- such terror!;)
