I think this image is incredible. It is how I would see myself right after my cross was raised. Already struggling and writhing in pain. My head laid back and looking toward the sky as I pray for mercy and comfort. Wondering why I have to go through this. Why am I suffering like this ?

Unless the women on each side of me were my friends, I would probably be oblivious to them at the very beginning. But I would eventually bond very deeply with both of them and would hope we tried to draw comfort from each other. We would each know exactly what the others were going through.

I would need so much for someone to tell me they care and that they love me. The desperation and helplessness I would be feeling would be off the charts.

Anyone there would hear me praying as I squirm in pain and suffer so much on my cross...

Another test with the 3 girls crucified in the desert place, I changed background (sand with rocks and peebles) & hard mid-day sunshine light (lot of indirect radiosity light) :

The guard offers the crucified girl to shorten her sufferings it seems ?
What is she answering to him ?

You put the sun light behind them, which creates some nice dramatic shadows. You must have put some fill lights in front of them too, or maybe a wall that's out of the scene for a reflector? Nice work!

I've never lit a scene like that, always put the sun in front, usually to the viewer's right, use that for a key light and add a bluish sky light and back light or rim light.

This is useless with VUE because radiosity calculations do the job very well : the only light in this scene is sunlight :cool: .

As you surely noticed, ground and environment colors are very brigh, so indirect light is enough high to avoid adding more light source ... but you are right for detailed views : I may add simple point lights to enhance illumination of faces for example.

I like these settings because it mixes very well hard sunlight & soft indirect light.
