Apostate already posted this in Milestones, but I thought I should also post it here.
Stan Lee, creator or co-creator of many comic book icons, who took Marvel Comics from an also-ran to a power house, who redefined the idea of a "super hero", and became a kind of hero himself, has died at the age of 95.

But, newspaper in New Zealand got the wrong Lee.

I think Stan would have loved that.

At least they didn't confuse 'Lee' with 'Tree'...

Funny thing is I never was a comic fan (if I had to buy it). My parents raised 5 mostly dysfunctional kids on dad's salary. So comics were a luxury I didn't spend on...

I had some fantastic slot-car tracks...

Stan Tree? Stan Goldman is still alive, but just barely:lily:

It's estimated that the Marvel movie franchise based on the characters he created grossed $ 24 billion at box office and is still going strong. Stan, like most artists, musicians and writers got only a tiny fraction of that, but that's life.
He made more than I did... probably enjoyed it more too.

Be well all,

Tree

The Stan Lee story sort of reminds me of another major contributor to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre.
Raymond Cusick .
He was a BBC Designer, and he came up with the extremely iconic design of the Daleks.
Yep,those evil,grating Pepper-pots !!
"EX-TER-MINAAATE !!"
Popular legend,(as told by,Mr.Cusick) was that he approached the late,Terry Nation, the creator of the Daleks, and, legal owner of that particular franchise, back in the 60's,and enquired about possible royalties, from any toy sales or TV appearance.....
He was assured,by Mr. Nation, that he would be seen good.....(!!)
Despite the Daleks being worth billions,in terms of merchandise and TV appearance Ray Cusick never saw a penny !! :( :(
(apart from his BBC salary.....)
R.I.P. Raymond Cusick
:dalek:

I had few comics as a kid, apart from Tintin and Asterix.. but I got hooked on the MCU when the first Avengers movie came out, and have looked at some of the comic book art since then - much of it is mind-blowing. As for Stan Lee, I salute his weird and wacky imagination, his creativity and commitment; and I'll miss his movie cameos (he already filmed appearances in the forthcoming Captain Marvel and Avengers 4; I hope they leave them in).

Roy Clark of Hee Haw fame passed today (11-15-2018)
Although he will always be remembered for co-hosting the hayseed Laugh-In; Clark was a phenomenal musician. My parents watched Hee Haw. I hated it, but this rock and roller was always impressed when Clark performed.
Performing his greatest hit six years ago, the voice was shot, but the hands still had it. Check out the guitar break in the middle and the end.

His fingers worked better then than mine ever did... on a guitar.
Too many die when you start getting to be my age!

Never watched it though my sisters have with their kids. He was younger than I!

I have (at least the early episodes) and consider Spongebob as one of the latest cartoon characters that would be relevant to my childhood/youth. Especially the early episodes were hilarious and are still spawning memes and cultural references.

I understand that back around the turn of the millenium it was very popular with college students, who would gather in their dorms to watch it. I am assuming some illegal substances were consumed. Hillenberg was actually trained as a marine biologist, showing that there is hope for scientists who want to work in the arts...
