Condemned
I live in the Philippines. Every year we celebrate the holy week which comemorate Jesus crucifixion, death and resurrection. Catholic use to celebrate this around the world. I'm quite sure we have different ways of celebrating the holy week but there is a deeper sense on why you must see how we celebrate it here. Some religious people think that they will be forgiven from their since if they hurt themselves during holy week. You might not believe this but every year some devoted believers have themselves crucified. Yes and they don't use ropes, they use nails. Of coarse it will only last for hours maybe 1 or 2 and it wont kill them. Enough talking... here's the link in youtube. Every year you can see it live in my country. Some tourist used to visit here every year just to see this guys. Check the Link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkxEyMORiyI&playnext=1&list=PLB28C494DF7570E99

Yes I have seen the clip...I can relate!

I've seen this sort of thing before. It is a fascinating phenomenon.
Self infliction of pain & even self mutilation as an act of religious devotion seems to have been part of human nature throughout history. I think there is a connection between the experience of religious ecstasy & the release of endorphins caused by physical injuries. There are cultures where devotees will pierce their bodies with steel rods. They reportedly don't experience pain & some even have a euphoric sensation. I believe the same thing happened with the flagellants of the middle ages. This may also explain the way that some Christian martyrs are reported to have endured tortures & painful deaths willingly & without any outward expression of agony. It's not divine assistance, but a natural part of human biology. Humans are pretty amazing creatures.

back to the subject of women being crucified during holy week in the Philippines: I found some pictures of the girl i mentioned.

oho in Poland in some bigger citys is live inscenisation with actors every year too on great friday but with fake nails and ropes and paint or ketchup as blood also but boys only can play Jesus and thiefs and being crucatfuxed
fake nails are not the same. Also 3D rendering and manipulations, so common in the site, are not. I like pictures from Philippines because it is real... real nails, real pain, real suffering...

and regarding the question of "only boys" playing Jesus, well, also in the Philippines it was like that. The girl in the pictures was the first, if I well remember. It was in the news because of this. She was in jail for some crime and decided to ask to be crucified part as a protest and maybe to pay her fault... not really clear. But now a few women decided to follow the example. I found something if you like...

Yeah the nails are real, but there isn't any weight on them..
They just stand there, not hanging there on the nails.
Sure the nails will hurt, but reality of a roman crucifixion is quite different in the amount of pain and suffering.

roman crucifixion was supposed to cause the death of the crucified...
I'm afraid it would be considered homicide even in the Philippines and nowadays "reality of a roman crucifixion" cannot be "real" unless you want to go to jail.
I like the Filipino holy week because is really-real!
By the way, even standing somebody is collapsing and needs medical assistance every year.

and regarding the question of "standing" against "hanging on the nails"...
Also in roman style it was not hanging on two nails in the wrist (or even hands!).
Feet were also nailed to support the body weight. Sometimes even a "sedulum" was used.
There is archaeological evidence of feet nailed at the side of the vertical beam, as in the picture, but in many christian depictions a pedestal is shown.
Considering that at the time of early christian depictions, romans were still crucifying...
well, maybe the big difference is that the romans were leaving the condemned on the cross for hours and even days and not for a quarter of an hour!
