For example gender A deposits its eggs in the host, then gender B needs to deposit its sperm in the same host to impregnate the eggs, then sub-gender C is used to deposit nutrients (but not feed, exactly) and /or partially (so she may fed during the pregnancy) cocoon the host.
Also the host's body could be caused to atrophy its unneeded limbs...

Another idea: the aliens actually can breed by their own, but they require hosts for survival in Earth's environment. So they grab a nice and nubile host, and "colonize" some suitable part of her body.
