Bad news.....(perhaps ??)

Go to CruxDreams.com
I'm thinking of doing a couple more stories....but was disappointed by the seemingly lack of response towards the end of my last written saga....
"The Enslavement of Alison"
http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/threads/the-enslavement-of-alison-as-told-by-baracus.6994/

Obviously it was too long and people stopped looking even before I'd got to the juicier bits... :(:(
(that's the impression I'd got....)
however I do appreciate the comments I'd received....
Hopefully my next projects won't be so long....??
Comments welcome as ever.

Don't take the number of likes or comments as a measure of your value.
In these forums, a goofy joke or an already-known picture often gets more response than an original work that took hours to craft.
Long works have their natural home in the archive, where people will enjoy them for years. It doesn't matter whether they get instant response in the forums.

Hangnail is right. The number of likes or comments are not necessarily the best indicator of the quality of a story. Keep writing!

Having posted stories on other sites, I can assure you that the number of views, likes and comments on even the less popular stories here at CF is 10x (conservatively) greater than one will get for a "best seller" anywhere else that I am aware of.

That said, the response here to pictures posted by someone other than the one who made them does still amaze me. I have one thread where I post pics (which fortunately for all concerned are NOT mine) and I try to find new ones that haven't appeared on CF before. But still, I consider those "likes" belong to the artist not me...

It's estimated that it takes between 3,000 & 10,000 copies sold (in the US) in a week to make the major best seller lists.
If a fiction work by a large publisher sells 10,000 copies during its press run it is considered to have done very well. 5,000 is consider good.
For small publishers, 3,000 is considered good.
However, actual "sales" - money changing hands at the book store or on-line and someone getting a copy to read - are hard to determine for reasons that are much to complicated to get into here.

Another way of looking at it is in percentages.
There are about 325,000 people in the US. So a best seller reaches between 1% and 4%. of the population.
There are a little over 20,000 members of this forum. So, if you story is read or downloaded by 200 members, you've reached best seller status.

It's also worth pointing out that of those 20,000 members, the large majority visit very rarely if at all. Also, a fair proportion, possibly the majority, do not speak English as a first language and aren't up to reading stories (as I would not be for stories in Russian or German or Mandarin). Thus, picture threads will typically get many more views than story threads. I truly appreciate every single person who takes the trouble to read my stories and those who comment even more so. Thank you all most sincerely...

I don't read but understand writing...

I agree with all comments, many people are reading stories or viewing pics, but also many of them don't put likes or write comments. Of course many likes and comments are good and they give a stimul to do your work but if there a few, you anyway must go on. For example, my first post of Vivian's pics gets about 40 likes and many comments, and those pics aren't good, last posts of pics are much better but there are only few likes, but I love them, because they come from our dear and most active friends, and many thanks to them:) few likes are normal, 'cause anyway my work is all the same, but I keep making pics. So keep on writing, we like your work, no matter stories are long or short, they come from heart, and we, same minded people are very few, and we are doing our stuff for each other, and I must say that our forum is a best fantasy club and our members are most wonderful people.

Hi. Transfering a thread to the archive means copying all the relevant bits and reposting them elsewhere. Usually there will be a PDF with illustrated cover to go with it. I'm one of the guilty mods who have happily left all the hard donkey work to Madiosi who has spent innumerable hours transfering threads. I shall raise the matter with other staff members to see if we can share out the burden.

If any member feels that a story or some artwork is worth placing in the archive -
their own work or someone else's - just pop a PM to one or more of us staff -
we try to keep up with all the good work that's going on, but we can't be everywhere all the time,
and, as Melissa says, it's a job that takes time.

OK ! Let that , there are too much pics actually to do something ...
... and I think that it complicates the work is that it's not a finished story / thread : I regularly add pics for your pleasure , I hope ...
Anyway, my viewers know well where I'm ... ;)

Sadly I seem to have succumbed to the dreaded "Writer's Block" :(
I've not written any new stories, nor finished off any existing ones....
(Especially, the one, titled, "No way to treat a Queen")
DAMN !!
I had so many ideas....that's the problem with reality getting in the way,of things. :( :BangHead:

The same for me, the last ca. 18 months. Lots of ideas, lots of starts, but finishing? Then it gets difficult.

I actually feel more stimulated to write in role play threads, but sadly, there are little running since the last months.
