Brief Crucifixion scene in Rome Episode 02/04/07

Did anyone get a screen capture of the brief crucifixion scene in last night's Rome Episode 02/04/07? The second victim appeared to be a woman. The camera angle was from the rear and to the right of the victims.

A clip featuring the scene has been posted on youtube.com. Type in Rome HBO in the searchbox. The episode is Season 2, number 4.

Rome "hairy Gauls" crux scene improved version

This is an idea of what the "hairy Gauls" crux scene in the first episode of "Rome" should have been like.

Oops! Got in too much of a hurry posting the previous pic. I put my glasses on and looked at it and realized there was a glaring mistake in it - not to speak of all of the little screwups - but somehow I can't edit or delete it. Here's the corrected pic.

I wish we could see her from the front, or more of her in any case, but the scenes from "Rome" don't include a front view of the crucifixion other than from the chest up, and that hardly seems worthwhile.

Further to the question about nailing the feet before raising the cross - and since it looks like no one else is going to post on this thread - I always imagined that the executioners would want the victim hanging when they nailed her feet so that they would be easy to position. Obviously, you could do that on the ground, too, but I think to do it right, you'd need to nail her wrists, then drag her body downward until her arms were stretched out tight. Then you could place her feet up close to her butt, but not so close that she'd end up sitting on her heels and not getting the benefit of hanging by the nails in her wrists.

In any case, and as I have written in several stories, I like the idea of her anticipating what is coming when the cross tips over and falls into the hole, and she feels her bare back and buttocks slipping against the rough wood but is helpless to brace herself enough to protect her wrists from the impact. And there is that period of time after that when she would flail her legs and try to get some purchase with the soles of her feet against the face of the cross, desperately trying to relieve the agony as she hung by those nails for the first time. Or maybe the cross's momentum would carry it so that it would tip forward a little in the hole, leaving her naked body suspended in air by her nailed wrists, legs flailing uselessly, all pretense at modesty forgotten in her agony. Perhaps the executioner would let the show go on for some time - because after all, the show was everything - waiting until she was exhausted to nail her feet in place, when she could no longer struggle and kick so much.

You'd miss all that if you nailed her feet first.

On the other hand, with a very tall cross there might not be any option other than to do all the nailing with the victim on the ground and then lift the cross up. I still think that the victim should be in the "hanging" position when the feet are positioned for nailing, which means pulling her body down the cross until her arms are outstretched and taut. If you're the executioner, what's the best way to do that?

You could have one of your helpers grab her by the ankles and pull her downwards, then maybe have another one sit astride her hips to hold her in that position while you nail her feet in place. Or,

You could loop a rope around her hips and have your helpers pull until she's well stretched against the nails in her wrists, kind of like a rack. That might make her compliant with having her feet nailed if it meant some temporary relief from the agony in her wrists. She hasn't had the experience of hanging by the nails in her wrists yet. Or,

You could have one of your helpers at the top of the cross, put his feet on her shoulders and push her down. Another could sit astride her hips to hold her in place while you position her feet and nail them.

Or?

Writers need to think about this kind of scenario to adequately describe the action. It also helps if it provides a good show for the crowd.

It seems to me that if you hang her up first and then try to nail her feet to the cross, she's gonna take the opportunity to piss all over you. As a woman, she probably wouldn't have that great an aiming ability, but she could exert enough force to issue a sizeable spray.

I would rather think that the feet would be nailed down while the cross was on the ground. An experienced crucifier would know where the feet should go for best results.

But, hey, do it whatever way grabs your fancy. That's the beauty of crucifixion--there are so many ways to do it. I personally like my women with their feet further down on the upright than what you normally see here, but that's my preference--that way they can't hide their pussies from view by bringing their legs together. Everything is out there, stark and exposed.
