Part One – The Arrest of Asma
Year 2050 AD. Most of the nations in the world are now developed, barring just a few. The exceptions are also incidentally the hotbeds of terrorism that have severely jeopardized their own inherent state machinery and ruined their economy. In some of them, violent terror coups have actually felled the state government and established the brutal reign of the Global Terror Network group or the GTN. This group is what the ISIS has metamorphosed into with many other smaller factions having consolidated with them, and stands today as the only terror group in the world posing a severe threat to global peace and security. Its activities not only involve a strong offensive against the under-developed nations to establish their rule in all of them, but also to plan and execute strategic terrorist and disruptive activities on a big scale in the developed nations in an attempt to derail them.
Needless to say, the GTN has their undercover agents operating in several of the developed nations for the purpose of recruitment of terrorists, channelization of funds, planning of terrorist strikes and other support related activities. Most of the developed countries have thus been left with no option but to adopt a zero tolerance policy for anyone found guilty of being involved in or abetting terrorist activities, and to award them compulsory capital punishment. And one such case has just come to light in one of the developed nations.
The digital and social media has been rife with this news for the last few days. These are now the main media of news and information dissemination and sharing, with the print media and newspapers having gone completely obsolete. The investigation team has collected compelling evidence that a certain agency was running a recruitment drive for GTN, under the apparent guise of a real estate consultancy firm. Acting on the tip-off of a certain person who suspected this firm of hiring and sending his brother to the middle-east for joining the GTN, the cyber-crime agency hacked the company mails and found compelling evidence of its nefarious activities. The actual boss of the firm managed to escape when the police conducted the raid but his associate Asma was caught and detained. She was a young woman whose charming beauty belied the possibility of her being involved in such heinous activities.
The verdict of the court was clear. She will be executed. Hanging and electrocution were the two traditional methods of execution in practice. But interestingly, this nation had also revived crucifixion as a method of capital punishment in cases involving terrorist activities. And as the day of the execution approached, the suspence and the speculations increased as to which method will be adopted for Asma’s execution.
The modern indoor stadium was packed to capacity on the morning of the eventful day, with men making up for the significant majority of the crowd, although there were quite a few women too. Everyone had arrived well on time. The stadium was quite huge with three galleries in all - lower, middle and upper, all surrounding the spacious central arena where the execution would take place. Furnished with luxury seats and a central AC, this stadium boasted of the most pleasant experience for the audience. And a most beautiful young lady dressed in trendy corporate attire soon arrived at the central arena to greet the audience. She started her address with a beautiful smile as her collar mike and the surround sound system amplified her sweet voice, “Good morning everybody. My name is Cheryl, and I work in the government security department. As you all know, we have arrested a woman called Asma who is convicted of the heinous crime of abetting terrorists and has been sentenced to death by the court. Her execution will take place today by a method which will be decided by you yourselves. I request all of you to download the special app whose link has already been sent to you to be able to participate in the poll.”
The members of the audience pulled out their mobiles and got busy in downloading the app. And as the digital clock sounded the first alarm exactly at 10 AM, the audience could see the convict wearing a black hijab dress, and with both hands restrained in handcuffs in front of her, being brought to the central arena by three armed policemen in bullet-proof vests. The dress covered her entire body except for her breathtakingly beautiful and radiant eyes that shone like gorgeous pearls from beneath the black garment. She was evidently very frightened and perturbed, but that only seemed to enhance her enigmatic beauty many times over.
