THESSELA

300

Thessela is Ilithyia's Body Slaves, always at her side. She is loyal to herDomina, who displays an unspoken but detectable fondness for her.

Thessela was seen as a background character and followed Ilithyia wherever she went, as is proper due to her being Ilithyia's body slave. She would escape the massacre at the House of Batiatus through her status with Ilithyia.

After Claudius Glaber discovers that his wife Ilithyia was planning to divorce him and abort her unborn child, he murders her father Albiniusand gains full control over her and her slaves.

Shortly after, he has Thessela publicly crucified to spite his wife and demonstrate his power over her, falsely declaring that the slave whispered words of support for Spartacus and his rebellion... treasonous talk overheard by his wife, her Domina.

Although Thessela is innocent and protests as such, Ilithyia confirms the lie out of fear of her husband, and on advice of Lucretia who cautions her not to oppose him.

Ashur and his newly-formed 'squad' of killers take personal pleasure in executing the innocent Thessela, crucifying her before a crowd of shocked onlookers (including Gannicus) in the streets of Capua.

MARCIA

latest

Marcia is a slave and prostitute serving in Capua. She is thin and has long curvy black hair and has beauty enough to attract the eyes of Gannicus.

Marcia is kind and understands her place as a slave. Despite this, she has a secret longing for freedom and believes that perhaps the cause by Spartacus may be the better choice in life. Following her meeting with Gannicus, she develops an infatuation with him, and he returns the sentiments in kind.

Marcia is the woman Gannicus sleeps with the night before he is to execute his fellow gladiators. After they are done, Marcia asks if she can share drink, which Gannicus pours, and asks him why he is in town. He explains that he comes for the games and, having never been, she says that she wishes she could have gone. Gannicus remarks that he wish that they could trade places, with her on the sands and him sleeping with women until the gods take him. Marcia then realizes who he is and is amazed as she never met a slave who gained freedom. She asks if she can see his Rudis and questions the markings which he explains they tell of his victories long past. Marcia notices the sad tone in Gannicus' voice and asks why he carries it if he is troubled by it, he replies it must always stay with him even in the arena to show he is not a slave and is reminder of the time he once was. He says he would fall to bed for the approaching games with the remembrance of her thighs keeping him warm. The two smile at each other before Gannicus leaves.

She briefly appears bartering with two men who wish to buy her she tells them she's a whore not a fool soon a fight occurs with two customers and ends with Ashur recruiting Abrax into his new group of killers.

Gannicus returns to the city looking for payment, although because he did not complete his job of executing Crixus, Rhaskos and Oenomaus, he only gets a small sum of money. He finds Marcia in the brothel later, although he tells her he does not have enough money to buy her. She coyly responds that he wouldn't need money, and Gannicus asks her to come with him when he leaves the city. Marcia says that she has been thinking of leaving to join Spartacus' rebellion, and that she is not alone in these thoughts. They are interrupted by Ashur, who tells him that Glaber wishes to speak with him.

Gannicus finds Marcia later, strung up and crucified among other slaves in the marketplace, by the work of the mercenaries on orders of Ashur, who overheard Marcia and Gannicus talking about Spartacus and noticed Gannicus' feelings for her.

Not really castrated, since his testicles appear to be intact. More like a penectomy, amputation of the penis only. I remember some of this scene from the Starz Spartacus series.
I find the idea of the removal of the penis sexier and more shameful. Less about the spreading of seed and more about demasculinization

I find the whole idea of people nonchalantly going about their business in the market place with crucified bodies hanging all around, but with business disrupted momentarily while some new victim is dragged to a cross, nailed and raised ... then business as usual with an occasional glance to monitor the suffering of one of the crucified ... captivating and erotically exciting. This was a great scene in Spartacus and brings to mind so many possible stories that could be spun about what it might have been like ... thoughts, emotions, or lack thereof ... for each of the victims, market goers, sellers, soldiers, etc.
