Yeah, I love this. Well done, jjjack! I've heard of stories, don't know if they're historically true or not, of travelers being waylaid by highwaymen back in the day, and robbed of everything, including their clothes. So I have this image of nobles and wealthy merchants (and especially their daughters and wives) having to ride their carriage into town stark naked, or better yet; their carriage being stolen as well, walk to town, just as the duchess will be forced to do.
