Love this poem, Wragg - as much as I love that classic pic!View attachment 488588
This March to death seems endless,
In shame and in disgrace
Alone, despairing, friendless
I see no friendly face.
This beam upon my shoulders
Reminds me, by its weight;
Of what they’ll do – these soldiers
Beyond that City gate.
That is very kind of you to say so, Jimsac!Love this poem, Wragg - as much as I love that classic pic!
Clearly, the pro-Brexit faction are not members of the forums.............which us Brits will soon be putting a hefty tax on.
Thanks for bringing Barb's poem. A classic! That is very kind of you to say so, Jimsac!
It's by no means unknown for Phlebas to inspire me to poetry!
And, if you haven't seen Barb's latest

You should!
A quick field solution for summary executions of captured rebels or enemies, perhaps.#3 and #5 have "crosses" far more like I expect they built, rather than the elegant constructions we are seeing with today's artists.
The #2 is clearly a working shot, considering the presence of film crew, the ladder, the modern appartment blocks in the background.Glad you like it. We're into selections from 2002 now (1st one from end 2001).
#2 from Quo Vadis
I mean this oneThe first pic is one of my favorites of all times.

#2 from Quo Vadis
#6 the famous Amber
#7 and #8 look uncomfortable
#9 classic Yusebby

Interesting preparation for the arena scene. For the extra's on the cross, having to wait for the takes, standing on a narrow foot rest : I hope they had more safety protection than just the ropes. In which case the protection is well concealed.
Do other such working shots exist?
Is this scene from old version of Quo Vadis (from 50's ans I remembered) or from newest Polish one? The Polish version is in link. That Quo Vadis scene has always worked as a stimulant to my many and varied crux fantasies. I have often wondered what it might have been like to have been an extra for that scene. How would I have been presenting myself? None of the extras appear to have been entirely naked, but I would most certainly have been topless. And yes, how long on the cross for setup and retakes, and how long exposed to the view of the crew members and onlookers? I am also reminded of a Markus story in which the extras were volunteers from a women's prison, presumably volunteering to reduce their sentence or to fulfill a fantasy.

Of course I know this film. How I couldn't?It's from the newer Polish film.

Actually, some of the women only seemed to wear a sling of flowers (I think these shots are perpendicular to the working shot posted by Phlebas, which was taken from the right.
I like to imagine myself then as the one in the foreground with next to nothing covering
