Human Sexuality In Modern Society

Sorry if I am cross posting a bit but we all seem to be ok with our sexuality and our fetish love of the image of human crucifixion.

As an amateur art historian I lament the fact that puritanism that has crept into our otherwise secular and modern society. What happened to the Nude in Art and Photography? So many people are afraid of their own bodies. As a naturist I am proud of mine, though my wife says laughing that i am a bit of an exhibitionist! But I have nice long legs! Many people are ashamed of their own bodies.Naturists do not ask for perfect bodies we do not examine the bodies of others, and I regularly swim nude with people of all shapes and sizes, fat and thin, often including the disabled. We do not exact judgment.

I remember a discussion about sexuality in one of the tabloid papers here in the UK about ten years ago and the fight against so called "porn".I wrote a letter to a newspaper saying that while doing an evening class the walls were covered in Renoir nudes and no one batted an eyelid about it.I was telephoned to see if I would appear in a live TV discussion but i said no.

I think that sexuality has been part of our culture in the West for thousands of years and we must not see it removed.I am the first to object to tacky porn on TV,it has to be creative, there is so much difference between poor witless pornography compared to creative erotica, just as there is a gulf between the naked and the nude.

Feminism has objected to the objectification of women by men but truth be told many women enjoy good pornography particularly that written or filmed by and for women!Hallelujah!
There was an important article in last Saturday's UK Daily Telegraph (14 June 2012) on Dr Brooke 'Belle de Jour' Magnanti,as played by the wonderful Billy Piper on UK television. She has been a three hundred pound an hour hooker and now a PhD scientist! Good on her!I welcome her new book The Sex Myth:Why Everything We're told is Wrong (W&N 14 pounds 99)[sorry I have lost my pound key on my keyboard!). I believe that sexuality and our expression of it can be very positive to all of us,stop being ashamed if you are! The UK Guardian Newspaper tends to be against it,and yes there are many women who are exploited and forced into prostitution. However the Telegraph tends to enjoy it and see it as a witty adjunct of 21st century fashion. The UK Sunday Times Style Magazine,(15 April 2012) usually for the lady aficionados of fashion has an article "In for a Treat" and welcomes the launch of the new soft porn fashion magazine "Treats! "fantastic, enjoy life and our bodies!

Pass the word good soft porn can be wonderful, the European artists since the Renaissance of loved women's bodies, and men's for that matter, why on earth cannot we? Anyway porn can very very funny too just as much as the funny questions we often ask about our own sexual orientation and tastes!

As someone who loves the female form as I do,I will recommend:
Carrie Leigh's NUDE Magazine - The Art Of Women
The black and white, fine art nude photography and art ...

These days you cannot really say you like the female nude, you might as well in the same breath say publically that you are into BDSM (which I am). There is a wealth between poor cold pornography and beautiful life enhancing erotica.I hate the use of the term "soft porn" as a derogatory alternative for erotica.Women are beautiful and inspiring, let us be human, accept and enjoy it.Beauty goes beyond the face and what lies beneath clothes is just as beautiful! Let artists and photographers continue to be inspired by the female nude as they have before for centuries.Enough of these po faced puritanical attitudes! We do insist on good art though! If they need to they should get back to the life drawing class! And while I am on it drawing as a medium in itself is wonderful, the first line on paper from the artist's brain on seeing an inspiring nude.Enough said!

Thinking of the shared joys we have in our secret (to the outside vanilla world) kink, shared between men and women, into the fantasy and role play of crucifixion, does make me think what a privilege it is.

Many women in the world do not have such freedom, often from childhood they are painfully forced to go through genital circumcision with removal of the clitoris and even the vagina sown up,and according to the Sunday Times today this happens to thousands,of largely immigrant, women,in this country alone.Lets enjoy our private passions though,if the outside world knew they would crucify us too!It is wonderful that in the Western World women are catching up with men to enjoy their sexuality, straight or lesbian.

Juliet Binoche interviewed on the radio last week on her new film "Elle"about female university students working for the 'oldest' profession, mentioned a great You Tube video of 40 women masturbating,I never found it,but good on them! We were born sexual beings and there should be no shame to enjoy sex and nudity! We only live once!

Which paper is the left-wing, progressive, liberal one, and which is the right-wing, reactionary, authoritarian one?
Interesting! ;)
Bit like the Roundheads and Cavaliers in the English Civil War
(Right but Repulsive versus Wrong but Wromantic)

Maybe I am the cynic but at heart they are all for the established order, its just they appeal to the pockets of different people, the Telegraph to the hunting, shooting fishing, probably mostly men so pro a little titillation from time to time. You would think as a paper largely read by the workers the Sun newspaper would be left wing, but it ain't!
The cavaliers looked dashing in battle until they lost!

'Belle de Jour' for French film history buffs is the classic by Luis Bunuel,
with the wonderful Catherine Deneuve -
a hauntingly beautiful exploration of the deep and dark aspects of female sexuality -
quite a lot of clips, trailers, tributes on YouTube, but hard to find any uncut.
Here's just one image:

Luis Buñuel once said: "My two sources of inspiration, apart from my religious education, are Marquis de Sade and Richard Wagner".
Well, I think it explains all about him and his work. A true genius.

Wagner's 'Justine', the scariest opera he never wrote!

XD...But think about his relation with sex, and the women's roles in his operas . It can be seen through his dramas: Tannhäuser, Tristan und Isolde...the Tetralogy itself: terms as servitude, Domination, pain, sacrifice, death...are always present there. Once and once again, little clues about how Richard himself conceived not just love, but sexuality (or, I would say, mainly sexuality) Kinky, at least ( so to speak, there's not a literal translation for "Kinky", in spanish)
I love his music, BTW. Very much and from childhood. And Luís Buñuel did, too. He included whole passages of "Tristan" as soundtracks for "Un Perro Andaluz", and " La Edad de Oro", if I remember well. Masterpieces of surrealism.

Ciao

In Luis Buñuel’s film L'Age d'Or (1930) in the last section final vignette makes reference to the Marquis de Sade’s novel 120 Days of Sodom (1785) with the survivors of the 120 day orgy emerging from the castle. According to the Wikipedia entry one of the characters from de Sade’s novel, the Duc de Blangis appears at the door of the castle in a long robe and white beard, a girl rushes to escape past him,he drags her back inside and she is heard screaming. At the end of the film the scalps of the women from the orgy are seen hanging from a crucifix.

That reminds me has anyone seen Pasolini’s Salo;it’s still quite powerful and kinky.I liked the youths being brought up the stairs nude and leashed with collars like dogs on their hands and knees. It was a satire on Italian facist corruption during WWII I believe.

Thinking of female crucifixion Buñuel's 'La Voie lactée' (The Milky Way) (1969)
Includes a scene where pilgrims entering a chapel encounter Jansenist nuns nailing another to a wooden cross.

Yes, I have. And yes, it is.:);)

Not much to post but why oh why does our Western society accept so much fear and violence,TV,Video games etc.. but then fear Sex so much ,let alone BDSM;
disparagingly calling it at best soft porn and mostly 'pornography'.?

I find that BDSM is shared between like minded people and with care, even pain can be administered with a certain love;and the rile play and fetish gear can be great fun and is highly creative.I know that there are from time to time the awful 'Fred West's of this world who violate everything we believe BDSM to be,that physical and sensual experience that excites the endorphins of the skin,an almost 'third' sexual experience beyond straight and gay.

Anyway why so much the fear about sex and yet allow the endless shoot them up violent video games?! Just a thought!
