and this..............................
March 16 was the first day of the Bacchanalia in ancient Rome. The Bacchanalia were wild and mystic festivals of the Roman god Bacchus, originally held in secret and attended by women only.
The festivals occurred in the grove of Simila near the Aventine Hill, on March 16 andMarch 17. Later, admission to the rites was extended to men and celebrations took place five times a month.

Bacche, bene venies gratus et optatus,
per quem noster animus fit letificatus,

Bacchus forte superans pectora virorum
in amore concitat animos eorum.

Bacchus sepe visitans mulierum genus
facit eas subditas tibi, o tu Venus.

Bacchus venas penetrans calido liquore
facit eas igneas Veneris ardore.

Bacchus lenis leniens curas et dolores
confert iocum, gaudia, risus et amores.

Bacchus mentem femine solet hic lenire
cogit eam citius viro consentire.

Bacchus illam facile solet expugnare,
a qua prorsus coitum nequit impetrare.

Bacchus numen faciens hominem iocundum,
reddit eum pariter doctum et facundum.

Bacche, deus inclite, omnes hic astantes
leti sumus munera tua prelibantes.

Omnes tibi canimus maxima preconia,
te laudantes merito tempora per omnia.

Bacchus, the pleasant and longed you will come,
by which our mind is merry,

Bacchus, perhaps conquering the hearts of men
the love that stirs their spirits.

Bacchus, often visiting the women of
makes them subject to you, O Venus.

Bacchus veins penetrating the hot liquid (venas in Latin mean penis)
makes them fiery heat of Venus.

Bacchus, gently soothes cares and sorrows
brings jolly, joys, laughter and love.

Bacchus was wont to soothe the mind of a woman
quickly drive her husband to agree.

Bacchus made her an easy conquest,
from which it can not be to obtain sexual intercourse at all.

Bacchus, god, makes a man happy,
and makes him equally learned and eloquent.

Bacchus, excellent god, all of us standing here
We are your rewards prelibantes death.

All you sing the praises,
the times of the merit of that praise Thee in all things.

leti sumus munera tua prelibantes.
We are your rewards prelibantes death.
I think it really means something like "we are joyfully drinking your gifts"
libare means both "to taste" and "to offer a taste", especially a drink-offering (libation) to a god, so
prelibantes is "drinking [wine] before offering some of it [to the god]"

I can't comment on Crucifixa on the thread, so I will do it here!

All I can say is WOW!!!!!! The poem, the imagery, the pics!

More please!
Thanks very much Theseus, and thanks to everybody for the 'likes' that are pouring in,
I feel I ought to be handing them over to dear Ascanio who's made such wonderful images.
Crucifixa was in fact my very first offering when I joined CruxForums back in January 2011,
It's nice having it in the Archive now, but indeed you can't post replies there.
