Such executions had nothing to do with the Gestapo or the SS. They were carried out by the public executioner.

But sometimes the work in itself is its own bonus and reward. Its all about job satisfaction at the end of the day..
It always struck me as odd that Americans often refer to their remuneration as "compensation"
(well they do in accounting software any anyway)
