Up until medieval times condemned women were executed by being burned at the stake. It was an effective though cruel way to terminate their lives. Death was not quick and the condemned women would cry for mercy, howl in pain, or curse the crowd watching the flames consume her flesh.
Later, the condemned women would be hanged by the side of the road. Either swung from the back of a horse or having the wagon they stood upon be pulled away they would dangle from the rope around their necks until they finally choked to death. It was not a swift execution but at least when they were hanged the only noises they made were desperate gasps for their diminishing breaths for life. They were hanged naked and their bodies were left hanging from the noose until sunset to warn others not to break the laws or moral standards.
A century or so later, women were still hanged. They would be placed on gallows in a row and one by one the stools they stood upon would be kicked away until all were hanged.
In Cruxtonia women were still executed by hanging but in a more progressive fashion. First the women were bound and paraded naked from the jail to the gallows in the square. It was quite a spectacle as the crowds would jeer and mock the condemned women as they were marched to their execution.
They were forced onto a bench and a noose was placed around each of their necks. A preacher would pray for their eternal damnation in hell while the women stood nervously waiting to be hanged. Then the bench would be pulled away and with just a short drop the women would dance as they dangled from the gallows.
Barbara on your left and Messa on the right seem to have suffered the noose longed than the other five women they were hanged with. An hour after the women were hanged their bodies would be taken down and would be spit-roasted.
Their souls may have been most impure, but their cooked bodies would make for fine dining!
While most of the civilized countries have dismissed hanging as a means of execution (if they still perform executions at all). To this day Cruxtonia still employs it as we shall soon see when Lisa Morgan is arrested on morals charges.
