Anyway, a typical NATO maneuver these days : ten days on the run, then firing nukes on 'the enemy' operating in... Middle Germany.
Comes the Colonel : "Men! Good job! We won this war too!"
I got to participate in a small way in a NATO maneuver in southern Germany back in the day. During the exercise, instead of being on patrol as we should have been, my unit (it was a small unit) dittybopped through a park and mootched wurst off the picknickers. Most were very nice and friendly and happy to share. However, we were reported and nearly arrested by a couple of cops from the Bundesgrenschutz, who were not part of the game, and were not playing. We managed to effect our escape by clever subterfuge and evasion. That is to say. . . running away.
