Summer starts today in the northern hemisphere...
Humm, it feels like it's been going on forever already! Today's evening walk through the garden got me strawberries, cherries, currants red and black and raspberries, most of which ended up in a delicious 'Wähe'. Cherries are unusually early and the Papirovkas look like they need only a little more than a fortnight...

I think it finishes in the Northern Forest.

Londoners will be amused to learn that the weather they've had in the past fortnight wasn't summer :p
34 point something Celsius today at Heathrow (which is my idea of Hell whatever the weather),
I think that's about 92F :very_hot: :very_hot: :very_hot:
In the Northern Forest we've only been up to 25C,
nice weather for shorts, no need for any hotter :D

Apple's iPhone turns 10 today reminding us of a rocky start for the device that ended up doing most to start the smartphone revolution.

The first iPhone was launched without an App Store and was restricted to certain phone networks. It was limited compared to today's version and, after sluggish initial sales, Apple slashed the price to spur holiday sales that year.

With more than 1 billion iPhones now sold since June 29, 2007 one wonders what its future holds.

50 years ago today, June 29, 1967, 50s sex symbol Jayne Mansfield was killed in a car crash near Slidell, LA at the age of 34.
At approximately 2:25 AM, the car she was riding in rear ended a semitrailer that had slowed due to a mosquito spraying truck ahead. The fog of pesticide may have obscured the driver's vision. Mansfield, her boyfriend Sam Brody and the 20 year old driver, Ronnie Harrison, were all in the front seat and were killed instantly. Three of Mansfield's children by Mickey Hargitay: Miklos, Zoltan and Mariska - who has gone on to a successful acting career herself - were asleep in the back seat and suffered only minor injuries.
Contrary to urban legend, Mansfield was not decapitated. She died of severe head trauma. The rumor may have started from photographs that actually showed her blond wig caught in the debris of the windshield. As result of the accident, the NHTSB pushed for an underride bar beneath the rear of tractor trailers. Today it is know as a Mansfield Bar.

An alternative view on the iPhone's 10th birthday:

The iPhone is the crack cocaine of technology. Don’t celebrate its birthday....
