Ah, Bamforth's 'saucy' postcards, sold by the millions in 50's-70's, always sent by families when on holiday, to workmates and elderly aunts alike. Was this a uniquely British art form?

Currently being reprinted less than a mile from old slave's mansion.

So I went looking for analogous American dirty postcard art, didn’t find many, but found a whole bunch of these.

Now its meant to be rural Ireland before Independence, but the train is its usual 3 hours late. Sounds like Northern Rail!:p
 
And those of us who treasure the written word. In 9th grade, I found in the school library, The Quiet Man and Other Stories, by Maurice Walsh. The original is just as good and the whole book is a treasure. I haven't seen it in 55 years but I remember it fondly.

An even more ancient version of Irish railway services was the Will Hay classic 'Oh Mr Porter' -
the new English station-master arrives at Buggleskelly - and learns what became of his predecessors ...
