I can give a good reason for this. It must be some 50 years ago, in a medical faculty. Bodies of deceased were prepared for anatomy lessons. For reasons of preservation, the bodies needed to get injections. But why sterilize the needles, since the bodies were already dead? Until one of the technicians scratched himself with a needle. It contained bacteria that only live in dead bodies. The man got infected, and since there were no antibiotics against bacteria that only house in dead bodies, he died of it. So, one reason : to protect the technicians against whatever peril that houses in the needles.
