Thanks Frank - yes, I relate to quite a lot of what he says (unfortunately the text is a bit mangled, the ends of lines missing, but it's a good exercise in predictive reading). Good to see his reference to Lionel Trilling, another very wise, though humanly flawed, literary critic of the 'liberal arts' tradition.
Sorry, I should have checked. I'm not sure what happened, but I used FireFox to "print preview/print to PDF". That usually works. I guess this was extra-wide text. It turns out there's a print icon on the article (duh) and when I use that I get the whole thing. But the font is a lot smaller--which indicates it is a non-standard format. Here it is again in case anyone else wants to read it. I thought it was hilarious. Modern-day English professors are among my favorite species. I loved the illustration. (Wasn't that a quote in Terry Jones' obituary--"Instead of getting outraged about something someone wrote about something someone else wrote, why don't I just write something myself?") One of my younger brothers majored in English, and he couldn't stand "theory" either.

Here are the answers:

Frederic Austerlitz - Fred Astaire
Doris Kappelhoff - Doris Day
Joseph Levitch - Jerry Lewis
Bernard Schwartz - Tony Curtis, who costarred with Douglas in "Spartacus"
Leonard Slye - Roy Rogers
Archibald Leach - Cary Grant
William Beedle - William Holden
Maurice Micklewhite - Michael Cain
Leroy Harold Scherer, Jr - Rock Hudson
William Henry Pratt - Boris Karloff

I could have added Betty Joan Perske, who Douglas dated when they were classmates in acting school. She became famous as Lauren Becall.

They were married soon after filming. Christiane Susanne Kubrick, she is a rather renowned painter in her own right. Still living in the Home Counties, I believe. She came from a theatrical family (her uncle was the infamous film director Veit Harlan . In 1940 he made Jud Süß, regarded as the most anti semitic film ever made. Christiane, of course had nothing to do with her uncle's work),
Obviously, since she married a Jew.

If I did I would have a certain je ne sais quoi, which I have on good authority l don’t.
I believe you are full of je ne sais quoi.. :)
Someone has translated the Mother Goose Rhymes into this kind of cod French:

the real fun of the book comes when these nonsensical French poems are translated into English apparently by someone who has no idea what they are, and who supplies copious annotations in an attempt to make sense of them.

I think I know enough French to get this.

Humpty Dumpty
Sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty
Had a great fall.
And all the king's horsesAnd all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty Together again.

Un petit d'un petit
S'étonne aux Halles
Un petit d'un petit
Ah! degrés te fallent
Indolent qui ne sort cesseIndolent qui ne se mène
Qu'importe un petitTout gai de Reguennes.

A child of a child
Is surprised at the Market
A child of a child
Oh, degrees you needed!
Lazy is he who never goes out
Lazy is he who is not led
Who cares about a little one
All happy with Reguennes
