George Herbert Walker Bush, 41st President of the United States, has died at the age of 94.

With apologies to Alfred, some paraphrase:

BURY the Great Bush
With a country’s lamentation,
Let us bury the Great Bush
To the noise of the mourning of a mighty nation,
Mourning when their leaders fall,
Warriors carry the warrior’s pall,
And sorrow darkens hamlet and hall.

O friends, our chief state-oracle is mute:
Mourn for the man of long-enduring blood,
The statesman-warrior, moderate, resolute,
Whole in himself, a common good.
Mourn for the man of amplest influence,
Yet clearest of ambitious crime,
Our greatest yet with least pretence,
Great in council and great in war,
Foremost captain of his time,
Rich in saving common-sense,
And, as the greatest only are,
In his simplicity sublime.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust;
He is gone who seem’d so great.—
Gone; but nothing can bereave him
Of the force he made his own
Being here, and we believe him
Something far advanced in State,
And that he wears a truer crown
Than any wreath that man can weave him.
Speak no more of his renown,
Lay your earthly fancies down,
And in the vast rotunda leave him,
God accept him, Christ receive him.

Is 2019 going to be a terrible year for 70s pop ?

On January 21st 2019, Henry d'Orleans, Count of Paris has died (1933-2019). In a monarchist France, he could have ruled as Henry VII (he is succeeded by his son, Jean IV).
The Orléans branch is a cadet branch of the Bourbons, descending from Louis-Philippe I (1773-1850), himself descending from a younger brother of Louis XIV (hence the 'cadet' status).

The claims of the Orléans branch is disputed by the Legitimist party, who state that the Bourbon line descending from Louis XIV himself is the legal claimant of the French throne. The direct French elder Bourbon line got extinct at the death of 'Henry V', Duke of Chambord, in 1883. There was however still a line of Spanish Bourbons, descending from Philip V of Spain, a grandson of Louis XIV. The claimant of this line today is Louis XX.

(and let us not forget the claims by the Bonapartists).

This entanglement of royal lines, and claimants, was the inspration for the background of my story http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/threads/queen-of-chaos.6405/
in which the lead character, Aurore d'Artois, was forced to submit to the plans of her uncle, a claimant to the throne, in a fictional Europe where there had been no French Revolution.

Actually of course Franz, Duke of Bavaria, as the heir to the Stuarts is the legitimate ruler of Scotland, England and France :p
As a member of Clan Bruce - via a maternal great-great-grandmother - I would like to point out that the Stuarts stole the throne of Scotland. The English are welcome to them however.

On a semi-related note; I would like to wish you and any other Scottish members a Happy Robert Burns Day. And, in his honor, I present the world's bravest piper:
Two things I would like to note about this video:
1) The odd tone change as he falls is the result of the Doppler Effect.
2) THANK ALL THE GODS HE WAS WEARING SOMETHING UNDER HIS KILT!

Apparently the Opportunity Rover, which landed on Mars in 2004 and was supposed to last three months, succumbed to a dust storm. They have not been able to revive it. The minutiae may seem dull and pointless, but one learns how planets work by sweating the details and making observations. One hopes the Chinese rover on the far side of the moon will be similarly successful, and that the Parker probe due to take 26 or so wild (i.e., very fast) rides around the sun will be as well. Satellites are already clogging up near-earth space. There are several dead instruments on Mars, and the moon (and apparently a golf ball or two from Apollo). One day someone will have to go up there and sweep up.
