I’ve often thought a burning at the stake did not necessarily end with a pile of ashes. As long as the victim perished, a scorched and blackened corpse might well be left behind.

Personally, I feel that the crucified, after their death, should not be descended from their cross and buried.
The crucified is, logically, a criminal or a thief and has been condemned to this slow and agonizing death.
Birds of prey and insects should be responsible for removing the bodies until only the skeleton remains.
The fact that the convict knows he will not have a grave should increase his humiliation and make him suffer even more psychologically.
Moreover, in many religions, decaying and not being buried is an obstacle to entering one's paradise, a failure to have another life after death.
It's a question of belief.
So, you would have the opportunity to see more corpses on the crosses.
