My guess!? It's an antique coal fired water boiler!

Still in use in Cruxton Abbey. When Lord @Wragg wants to take a shower or a bath at the end of a warm summer day, he orders his female staff to fire it up! Of course, since it is hot weather already, the scullery maids do that job without clothing!
