Reconstruction Of A Woman's Crucifixion

Go to CruxDreams.com
A much-debated topic, not least on various threads here,
those pics seem to show 'back to front' crucifixion as a form of bondage for whipping,
after which the victim's presumably left to bleed in the blazing sun,
attracting insects, going mad with thirst -
certainly a hideous punishment that could well end in death.
But the woman in ##6-10, in just a loin-cloth,
looks as if she's enjoying her intimacy with the wooden pole!
A girl after my own heart!

Not to mention it would be easier to impale a women on a cornu if she's facing the cross. Add some whipping of the butt, and she'd be "humping" the cross wildly.

My feeling is that there was no difference in the way men & women were crucified. On the other hand, I doubt that there was an "official" method of crucifixion & much was left to the whims of those in charge.

In my mind, it makes little sense but who's to say!

Naked on a low cross...

Displayed and there for the taking?

But really... Why???

According to some ancient accounts (e.g. tractate b. Sanh. 43b) a man is suspended with his face towards the spectators, but a woman with her face towards the cross ...
Individuals were crucified nude, in a few cases perhaps with a the short tunic as in the well known Palatine graffito shown ...

I like Special the fotos 5 till 10. They made everything very good and very realistic. You see the hurt body, the dirt and the terrible agony. And they found for this photos a beautiful modell with wonderful long dark hairs.

My favourites are the last 3, definetly some of the ladies on this site would be like her. I'm sure you can see yourselves in these 2 pics.

I suppose that the above mentioned rule (Sanhedrin 43b) was a specifically Jewish law, allowing the condemned to save his/her dignity to the some degree, especially while some other Jewish sources mention that women should not be crucified naked but "decently covered" (as regards to the men they are not so unanimous). If so, this rule had some sence.

But the Romans of course had no objections for a total nudity of any punished slave and that's why I am sure that if the Romans crucified women face to the pole it was in no case an act of mercy, as the (naked) women crucified in such way has maybe her face hidden but her crotch even more exposed to the public than if she had been "classically" crucified (see the sample), not mentioned sedile and so on.

I think it's important to appreciate that the motive for such a law
was nothing to do with protecting the woman's self-respect,
it was the belief that the sight of genitals, especially female,
was polluting to the viewer. That wasn't peculiar to the Jews,
such attitudes were (and are) pretty widespread in the Middle East/SW and S Asia,
and weren't absent from Rome, especially in the later Empire,
associated with the rise of Christianity,
but with other 'eastern' cults and ways of thinking too.

Does anybody know where these images came from or who created them? Seems like I've seen them on GettyImages or something like that, which I wouldn't normally associate with porn or with historical reenactment. Just wondering who went to the trouble to do it. (But maybe I just don't know anything about Getty.) :)

They're from a documentary on History Channell

Good day everybody,

This interesting documentary gave me this idea:

does anybody know a crux story with the condemned crucified by facing the cross
or with the body being somehow "folded" on the cross?

If yes, could you please post it here?

Thank you in advance!

The only one like that I can remember was a piece out of a graphic novel where there were a lot of women and maybe men too crucified along a road. Didn't impress me much which is why I don't remember a lot about it. I think that was the one with a cigar-smoking Roman centurion. Sorry I don't know where to find it, but maybe someone else does.
