I hesitate with whipping to much. I'm reminded of Conan the Barbarian, when the week slave becomes a powerful warrior through all the physical labor. I find it's best to simply cull the weak, either toss the over the ship or eat them. After all, there are plenty more in the lands across the seas.

Thank you. We see so much whipping, torture, etc., that one often forgets that mines and fields don't work themselves. It's not all fun and games.
