Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit is a novel by Jeanette Winterson published in 1985,
which she subsequently adapted into a BBC television drama of the same name.
It is a coming-of-age story about a girl growing up in a strict Pentecostal community,
who discovers her sexuality is lesbian.

Since Eulalia so ungraciously challenged my assertion of non-utility, I will list all the possible reasons:Not sure whether that's because you've learnt from bitter experience?

I discovered the book first - then tracked down the tv series,Surprised you are old enough to remember that. It certainly caused a stir at the time.
I was thinking of the original tv programme, which came out sometime in the 1980s, obviously, you could have read the book at any time subsequently as it has remained in print. At the time, people were shocked because it was the first real overt case of lesbianism in a BBC programme and they were perhaps not so aware of the feminist aspect as an audience of today would be.I discovered the book first - then tracked down the tv series,
which is very moving. Both are regarded as classics in the world of feminist literature.
