Some more oldies.

The classic painting by Lionel Royer, "Vercingetorix throws down his arms at the feet of Caesar."

The same scene as depicted in Asterix and Obilex.

Finally, Damian’s repurposing of Royer's painting. :very_hot:

The viewer will note the unbelievably luckless lady is tied, not nailed, to her cross, for all the good that does her.

Oh, it was Makar's Lena who was the template for one of the Quo Vadis crux scenes above. :very_hot:

Oh, and one of the "crucifixion with hot irons" manips above? Arcimboldo revisted the theme the following year.

The original caption was "It was uncommon for a slave to escape with the intention of being caught." Or words to that effect.

Jastrow's emulation of Yusseby's original drawing, and a reworking from last year. The latter lacks postwork, but even so I’m not sure which I prefer.

Three Damian promos are that are new to me, and higher resolution than others I’ve found.

And gee, am I glad. :very_hot:

Well observed, Tree.
Is this one by PhilX - can anyone confirm, please? :)

It is hardly uncommon to see criminals nailed to their crosses to die for their crimes. It draws a large crowd when a row of women are crucified!!!

Alice and Yulia hardly constitute a row, but as a dance team they certainly put on an amazing show. :very_hot:

Bob, if PhilX was the guy whose "crowds" were made up of photos of himself draped in towels photoshopped into the picture, then it was he who made this manip. ;)

Yes, the base image is by Philx, but it is a male crux, from a series
7[1].28 am s.jpg9[1].05 am s.jpg9[1].33 am s.jpg

I don't know who added the girls, it wouldn't have been him, but I admit I have also played around with a mixed crux based on the same images (yet to be finished/posted)

PhilX is a self cruxer, and his manips are unique, he features as both the victim and everyone else in the scene, male and female!
Think of the amount of work, every figure is from an individual photo and has to be placed individually.

And as such he can choreograph this illustration of one of the hazards to spectators at a crucifixion.

If you look at the upper right corner of the picture you will see a third woman's arm nailed to her cross and where the crowd is looking she is not the last to be crucified:eek:

I stand corrected, Tree.

Will your camera start panning to the right any time soon?

I’ve never really warmed to Damian’s Old West series. The juxtaposition of pioneers, Red Indians and crucifixion never did connect comfortably in my mind.

Where and when and what the hell is going on in the fourth pic resists analysis.

But the fifth one is more in my Roman Empire paraphilia zone, with a "What really happened to Queen Boudicca" vibe that’s hot.

But what the hell, they all are. :very_hot:
