Feeding birds is a way to have "pets" (including fury ones--a feeder in Wisconsin attracted a black bear) without the hassle. Animals are focused--eat (whenever possible), procreate, keep warm. They don't seem to have to worry so much about ancillary stuff like being disappointed when people who make more money than you can even dream of and often don't even live where they play lose a game. I always try to think that way when I feel as you describe.
