To discuss a bit, I should say thazt Pichard is a good drawer, I dont reject his style, but his stories are , in my opinion, too much simple about the feelings of his heroines ...
In this kind of stories, I prefer much more the "Story of O ", if you see what I mean ...
For me, the soul is very important in BDSM and I prefer to see less than more : Quality is better than Quantity ...;)
Of course it's too simple as a story, although there was a time when women were at the mercy of the first sadistic comedian and with impunity. There were also a lot of unavowable things going on in the convents.
Story of O is the unavoidable book, the bible of the bdsm, that is what I told you in another message, Love unconditional and reciprocal without betrayals or lies.
I also have "Histoire d'Ô" in comics but it is in French.

To me, Pichard presents a similar problem to Quoom - he has good, exciting ideas, and is certainly skilful artist,
but for me he 'over-works' his ideas, some images of torture and degradation are very powerful and imaginative,
but one after another they become tedious.

Nevertheless, he is a very important figure in the history of sado-masochistic art,
it's good to have a 'library' of his work here for members to form their own judgements.

But it's better in French! Anyone who can manage to read French should certainly make the effort with l'Histoire d'O.

Yes, I tend to focus on the few frames in each story that appeal to me ... usually ones that feature a more conventional image of a whipping, imprisonment, hard labor, crucifixion, etc., without too may extraneous tortures and implements.

I control my E-Book Folder Love-Erotic. I have in German Language "Story of O" and "Back to Roissy". But never read. I setting that on my Agenda. So many to read...
 
There's a very interesting interplay in these Pichard works, between the beautiful and the grotesque; in BDSM fantasies and art these principles are often closer together than in real life... just like pain and pleasure can be intertwined, inseparable.

But certainly art-works like this lose their effect when viewed en masse

I agree. "Over-work" is a great phrase. Less would be more. Realistic torture / punishment would be sufficient. Nudity: of course. And lots of female specators mocking the victim, enjoying it is she who is displayed naked, indulging her sufferings.

And yes, female (dressed) torturers/executioners who love their "work".

For me, seeing so many close together means they lose their impact. They become a catalogue of suffering, rather than a celebration of it.

And without a narrative (of some sort - a single picture, well done almost always has a back story that the viewer can provide), they become dehumanising (if that makes sense?)
