The husband of one of the accusers had been trying for years to acquire a small plot of land owned by one of the victims. By sheer coincidence his brother in law just happened to be the judge. The homes and belongings of the other witches were also distributed among the townsfolk. Once the witches had been cleansed of their sins they would have no further need of worldly goods would they? Doing the good work of the Church could be very profitable all round.
Fortunately today we don't have people who cry "Blame the Christians!", "Blame the Jews!"..and then steal all their possessions. Neither do we have carpet baggers and asset strippers and such like!! Instead we have good honest bankers and loan sharks who would never dream of robbing people of their money and homes they can no longer afford.
