here are some examples, as you see, pretty similar to the ones in your picture -
but you'll see very similar shackles on harbour walls in fishing ports,
and even bolted onto rocks on the shore, so bad girls can be disciplined,
and maidens conveniently sacrificed, either in the market-place or down by the water
