Tumblr deleting all erotic pictures by the 17th

Hum, excepted when you're becoming a little "paranoid" willow, I agree with you ... But dont forget that, after a period of laxation, often it follows a period of righteousness and perhaps are we entering in it ...
After Mai 1968 and till 2000th , mores were rather relaxed , but today it seems (in Europe at least) that pretexting the children protection and the women'rights , some censors are wanting to forbid many things ...
Notice well that I'm not against women'rights and childhood'protection but it seems actually that some fundamentalism (islamic) is envading our european societies (niqab for example ... )

Love you dear, you know that but I don't think I am being paranoid.

I agree the pendulum goes both ways, as a society we get too relaxed and then we get too tight.

But each time, each thing we let the government take something away from us we never get back to where we were. And with today's electronic world it just becomes easier.

AI to scan each and every bit of data put out onto the internet. Can't happen? Already is in China (and how many other totalitarian governments would love to have the same capabilities). And companies like Apple and Google are helping them design the systems. Use a debit or credit card and at least 3 companies know what you bought instantly.

And it is all about power.

Islam isn't against women, it's against women having any control or enough power to get control. They LOVE women, to have sex with and to do what they're told. Islamic men don't want to live in a world without women, they want to live in a world where women are compliant and quiet (except in bed then the men want to be told how great they are).

To take it out of the realm of women, let's talk about haggis. I love haggis, but I can't buy Scottish haggis here in America because what the Scots consider an ok item to go in haggis, the FDA here doesn't. Too the best of my knowledge Scots come from the same genetic pool I do (yes, I am part Scottish) but some idiot bureaucrat made a decision (probably based on some dubious science) that what Scots can eat, somehow is dangerous to me. Who the hell ever died from eating haggis?

Now do I think there is nefarious plot to take away our rights (Illuminati, New World Order, whatever)? No I don't.

But I do know that people, ALL people love being in power.

As a slave (consensual) I know there is a balance of power between me and my Mistress. I have (freely) given her power over me in some circumstances. But that is a decision I made of my own free will. She may whip me (which I love) and I consent to be whipped but some idiot bureaucrat may someday decide to charge my Mistress with domestic abuse. And even if I testify for her in court, she could be convicted and sent to jail (or at least have her career ruined).

I don't want the government in my relationships, bedroom or kitchen. I'm a consenting adult.

But there are a lot of people in government who think they have that right.

I understand they want to protect child. Got it and agree. So use the tools to hunt down those bastards (as far as I'm concerned you can crucify them on the street corners) and leave me alone. Don't take away my freedoms for something a minority does.

If Tumblr wasn't afraid of government action they wouldn't take this action.

Although I feel primarily for the women, I also think it's sad that these men have been raised with no appreciation of women's thoughts and ideas, which I find fascinating (strange but fascinating). I was raised in a highly educated family but my Mother wasn't very educated. But I so much enjoyed all through my life with her, just chatting and seeing her perceptive on things which always seemed so wise. I don't claim to have always been perfect in my respect for women, but I have never thought of them as less intelligent than a man (despite some tongue-in-cheek banter I do here on CF).
Who the hell ever died from eating haggis?
I don't know, but once I had haggis that tasted so bad I wanted to die! (probably that adulterated American variety). I did have excellent true Haggis in Buffalo where the good Scottish from Toronto would smuggle it across the border.

Seriously - so true and so important to fight. Your paranoia or, more correctly, your unwillingness to accept tyranny is admirable. I respect you (even if I'd like to get arrested for abusing you!:very_hot:)

but I don't think I am being paranoid.

I've not said that : I said "a little" ... but the term is certainly too much , sorry for my lack of knowledge of english language : the expression of Praefectus is certainly better (Your paranoia or, more correctly, your unwillingness to accept tyranny ) ...

And companies like Apple and Google are helping them design the systems. Use a debit or credit card and at least 3 companies know what you bought instantly.

OK but what is the matter : they know and ....... they send "publicity" ? Ignore them ...

Who the hell ever died from eating haggis?

Perhaps I could be the first ?!:boaa::cbiggrin:

As a slave (consensual) I know there is a balance of power between me and my Mistress.

OK but if it's consensual, who could file a claim ?

I respect you (even if I'd like to get arrested for abusing you!:very_hot:)

Mmmmmmmm ! YES !!!

Hey, I heard today that a couple of, I assume online station, have removed "Baby it's cold outside' from their Christmas playlists! It seems that there were complaints!

I always wonder how much influence some whiny SJWs can have. Someone is offended by something for ridiculous reasons - boom, it's banned!

"Metoo" might have a completely different meaning soon...

We do have rules. And yes, transgressions are monitored and dealt with by the mods.

Assuming I stumbled across a questionable post and reported it, will I be granted immunity anonymity towards the other non-staff forum members (and especially the one who posted it)?

It's a serious question, since I don't want to risk being called something like 'a sneak' or 'a rat'.

I can´t even start to imagine something like that with our staff members.

It trust the staff, but I do not know how the other users might react if they got a notification like "<Username> has reported your post for possible CP content" (if there even is such a notification).

December 17th - a rescue plan
Some good news, I’ve been talking to two developers now and got them working together, we just had a meeting with the guys behind an existing large (millions of users) site similar to Tumblr, with a vibrant and open-minded community, and more importantly, it has open-minded owners who believe in free speech. They think we can get something done here to rescue the whole community.

I’m not allowed to reveal the site name yet. I can tell you it’s mainstream, open to everyone, open-minded and welcoming. (It’s not WordPress or any site owned by Facebook or Twitter. It’s not Pillowfort, that’s in closed beta. It’s not Ello, that’s mainly for artists. It’s not kinkspace or fetlife, those are too specialist. It’s not jux, that seems to be closed. It’s not Soup, that seems still in development and too small.)

One of the reasons for delaying the announcement for next few days is they don’t want a “land grab” where people take the names of current popular Tumblr users over there (cyber squatting). So they are looking at ways for existing Tumblr users to keep the same names on the new site.

More info over the days to come.

The plan is, broadly:

1. By December 9th, announcement of the new site and how to secure your username there

2. By December 10th, an online tool for bloggers to copy their existing content to the new site automatically, with the same tags and captions.

3. Bloggers will need to copy their content across between December 10th and December 17th if they want to use the automatic tool.

4. My understanding is that after December 17th there will be no public access to any “flagged” posts on Tumblr, but the original poster will still be able to see the flagged post (for a short time at least). Therefore, the original poster may still be able to manually download a post to their own PC or phone, after December 17th, and manually upload it to the other site. But if you have lots of posts that will take a long time, it will be better to use the automatic tool before December 17th.

Please understand that these dates are approximate and may change for technical or other reasons.

There may be a few rough edges or not so perfect looking site design on the transfer tool. Everyone is doing their best. The main goal here is to help as many people as possible preserve access to their content, in the short space of time Tumblr has allowed us, and preserve as much as possible of the Tumblr community spirit somewhere new.

The new site will cater for photo, GIF, text and html posts. It will not offer video and audio posts, due to cost reasons - maybe in future, but for now you will need to preserve video and audio content yourself in some other place.

If your Tumblr blog has a mixture of original content and reblogs, or all reblogs, all of that can be copied over to the new site. Reblogs will become “your” original content if nobody else posted them yet, otherwise they will be shown as reblogs. The devs are looking at ways to preserve attribution of reblogs back to the original Tumblr poster, if that person also moves to the new site.

Important: your Likes cannot be copied from Tumblr to the new site. You will have to go find the same posts again on the new site, and like them afresh.

(Similarly, existing reblog comments, asks, messages and other user interaction on Tumblr cannot be copied to the new site - that’s just too much to do, in the short time available.)

If you want to preserve any of your existing Liked posts on Tumblr, you will need to either: (1) download the post to your own PC, or: (2A) reblog it now to your own Tumblr blog, and then (2B) use the automatic tool, before December 17th, to move your whole Tumblr blog across to the new site.

If you have Liked a lot of posts here on Tumblr, the gridllr.com webapp should be able to help you do steps 1 and 2A quickly, I mean download or reblog.

(Someone complained to me today about the appearance of Gridllr on a phone. It’s best to use Gridllr on a PC, Mac or Tablet with a large screen.)

If you have liked a post here on Tumblr and the original poster decides to delete it, or even to delete their entire blog, some time before December 17th, then that post will be permanently lost. So if you want to be sure to preserve any of your Liked posts, you should best download or reblog as soon as possible. If it’s reblogged to your own blog it is safe from deletion, at least for next few days.

Obviously, you will lose access, after December 17th, to all past posts you have liked, if Tumblr has flagged them as NSFW. Again, the steps (1), or (2A) and (2B) covered above will be the only way to hold on to these posts.

This too will pass

Dommu, I’m out of hands-on administration these days, but from CF's inception flame wars have been snuffed aborning. You have nothing to worry about on that score.

All reports are totally anonymous to the membership. Only the admin team can see them. The vast majority of reports are dealt with quickly and without fuss. Quite often it may involve something as easy as changing "Fourteen" to "Eighteen" or simply removing an underage bystander from a pic.

Excellent news. You should be able to follow progress on Twitter at https://mobile.twitter.com/rescueplan

And also that will be censored? (Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel, the expulsion from the Earthly Paradise, detail)

What is doing Eva with Adam when the snake offer the apple?

Turn the head of Eva and you discover what she is doing... ( .. for Apostate .. )
And observing the snake you can discover that the devil is woman...

And if you look at Eva's right hand you will see that she was masturbating with her middle finger ...

The trouble is that people and governments these days want to apply today's morals and prejudices to what happened decades or centuries ago. So now people who died years ago are being judged as if they lived today. For example owning slaves was legal and honourable in the late 18th century, and many leading British and American families were slave owners. Now they are vilified by the new moralists.

I grew up in the sixties. Sex was free and AIDs hadn't been invented. I was sexually active long before I reached the minimum age legislated today. Does that make me a paedophile? It might, if a girl I made out with more than half a century ago when we were both 14 decided today that she had been raped.

The world is going mad!

Yes, sure. But I think people are missing something. First, no one, I think, goes to Tumblr to look at Michelangelo. There are web sites from all of the great museums for that. And to censor some images is NOT tyranny or any of the foolish things some posters are saying.

The bottom line is this: There are laws against kiddie porn, laws which I agree with and I think (hope) most people here agree with, because those images, as opposed to stories or computer renders are created from a real child being exploited. Keeping those images off a site with millions of users is not a trivial task. Algorithms can't do it and even humans have a hard time when dealing with a volume of posts orders of magnitude greater than those on CF. What would YOU do if you were CEO of a very large web site? IMO, the blame lies with those who posted the images, not with those forced to deal with the problem.
