Tumblr deleting all erotic pictures by the 17th

Yes, sure. But I think people are missing something. First, no one, I think, goes to Tumblr to look at Michelangelo. There are web sites from all of the great museums for that. And to censor some images is NOT tyranny or any of the foolish things some posters are saying.

The bottom line is this: There are laws against kiddie porn, laws which I agree with and I think (hope) most people here agree with, because those images, as opposed to stories or computer renders are created from a real child being exploited. Keeping those images off a site with millions of users is not a trivial task. Algorithms can't do it and even humans have a hard time when dealing with a volume of posts orders of magnitude greater than those on CF. What would YOU do if you were CEO of a very large web site? IMO, the blame lies with those who posted the images, not with those forced to deal with the problem.
I agree with most of what you say; neither algorithms nor humans can control all posts. This way you can´t prevent all posts of childporn. But you can delete them and report all those who post them to the police. In the EU there have been a few attempts to control the whole internet with reference to childporn, terrorists and drugtrade. To prevent all misuse of freedom you have to abandon freedom.

But you can delete them and report all those who post them to the police.
That of course is what Tumblr has been doing up to now. I think they decided that the risks of liability and to their reputation were too great. Honestly, that is probably the right decision from the business standpoint.

In general, it's a problem of greed and growing too big to keep an eye on things. When Facebook started they were a niche site for college nerds and nothing too bad happened. Then, they decided that the way to riches was to open up to everyone (which included Russian spies, Nazis, etc.) and soon the problems started. Let Tumblr fracture into many sites, each small enough that they can keep a close watch on what is being posted, like our CF mods (All Hail the Mods!).

For me, I am like Grouch Marx- I don't want to join any club that would have me for a member, so I never joined any of those. Now you could ask why I joined CF? It's your turn to be the detective and solve that mystery because I have no clue;)

There's a very funny - topic unrelated - little slide-show on that Onion page
'Tips for working from home' - very close to the bone as far as this girl's concerned! :D
I worked from home for 10 years and sympathize. I think the best advice is to "Get into a professional mindset by putting on business attire before grabbing your laptop and getting back into bed."

Yes, and I read 'reward yourself with 1 hour on CruxForums for every 15 minutes solid work you put in'

" If you know anyone, and they tell you they work at home, you can tell them, "You're full of shit." I'll tell you what they're doing: they're masturbating. And how do I know this? Because I work at home. Yes. Yep, and it's nothing pornographic, and it's nothing erotic. The thing is, when you work at home, at some point during the day, you want to feel like you've accomplished something."-Lewis Black

The same can be said of many the offices of the corporate world, both domestic and commercial.
Maslow told us that Self-actualization, esteem, and love/belonging are essential for motivation and psychological health. One's own hand is much more likely to satisfy these requirements than the management team.
The morals and dogma make such action by management career limiting.

OK but if it's consensual, who could file a claim ?

That's the problem. In some jurisdictions in the US it is mandated that the police file a claim if they think you are being abused. You can claim you aren't but they will file anyway and then the local prosecutor decides whether or not to file charges.

I'd hope that most reasonable prosecutors once they had interviewed the "victim" (me) they would drop the charges.

But even the arrest is public record and if they decide to go to trial, I'd then have to get on the stand and explain our lifestyle to the whole world in order to protect the one I love but can you imagine how we'd get stigmatized in our community? We might lose our jobs, certainly we'd have to tell our parents something that we have never told them.

All because of moral supremacists.

Mmmmmmmm ! YES !!!

And GOD would I love to do this with YOU!

kisses

But "no harm, no foul". If you were acquitted, the system would have worked! Free to go with no loss except all your money for lawyers, stigmatized in the community, job loss when your employer can't stand the embarrassment, no hope of ever adopting, and arrest record, extra screening at airport and customs, even difficulty renting or getting a mortgage.

But you'd be free - be thankful and shut up!

This discussion has been interesting, but I would like to point something out: the decision to ban "adult" images - which now includes art studies and anatomy - was not ordered by any agency of any government. The decision was made by Verizon Communications which acquired Tumblr when it bought Yahoo in 2017 which had bought Tumblr in 2013. The ban was triggered by Apple dropping the Tumblr app due to alleged child porn images. This was entirely a business decision and I believe, in the end, a bad one. The resulting bad publicity and loss of millions of accounts will ultimately lead to the demise of Tumblr.

I detect an excercise in searing sarcasm here.

I could be wrong.

And we all know how :spank::spank::spank::spank::spank::spank:

You are correct that stories in which minors appear in a sexual context and even computer generated images are not illegal. That doesn't mean web sites such as CF cannot forbid them.
I'm not suggesting child porn in any form is ok . Any child porn in wrong and anything resembling child porn should not be allowed anywhere on the net . Did you bother to read the whole post .

... and to add to that I can point out a recent post by a mod that is very suggestive of just that subject but that's my opinion !

The same in Europe :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laskey,_Jaggard_and_Brown_v_United_Kingdom

In many European countries, acts of consensual BDSM are punishable by law, since the protection of a person's body integrity is judged higher than privacy considerations. It can lead here also to prosecutions, without prior complaint by one of the parties involved.
