Vintage - Georges Topfer Art #1
Georges Topfer aka Gaston Smit aka James Barclay (though it’s not clear which was the real name) was an original.
Among the earliest of the French Illustrators of sadomasochistic art, some of his cartoons date from the late 1800s
He apparently took seriously the art and practice of whipping naked women.
Nothing if not an innovator, in 1909 he even invented a type of whipping machine, presumably to rest his arm.
He had the additional trademark - like his contemporary Rene Giffey...
....of increasing the humiliation of the female victims by having them whipped nude by servants or dark-skinned natives of this colonial setting.
One has the feeling he took his work home to Mme Topfer (or Smit or Barclay) and spent a fair amount of time perfecting his forehand.
Some more examples of his work coming:
Part of the problem is that the text is in white, visible on Blackend but not on Default.
I could view the first attempt to post, but only by right-clicking and opening in new tabs -
anyway, as you've replaced it I've deleted the earlier one.
The third pic is indeed an interesting prototype of the Spanking Machine!

Test - pls advise, then delete:
1 - grey Georges Topfer aka Gaston Smit aka James Barclay

2 - black Georges Topfer aka Gaston Smit aka James Barclay
3 – white Georges Topfer aka Gaston Smit aka James Barclay

I use Blackend... Much to the chagrine of others here but all three tests were visible to me.

Good pictures by the way...

1-grey is just about detectable on Default, I have to highlight it with the cursor to read.
(THT uses it for his Messaline stories - but they're so good I don't mind going to the trouble!)
2-black is fine on Default.
3-white is totally invisible on Default
(unless I happen to run the cursor over it,
but of course if I don't know it's there I won't necessarily do that)

But Eulalia is known to finger things...

Since I subscribed I never did change any settings.
I had "blackened" by default from the beginning (I didn't even care about checking if there are other options), and the forum looks much more stylish that way imho.
So, unlike the style names are suggesting, Blackened is the "default".

The problem really is that such fundamentally different settings do exist!
Medium Gray seems to be the only option that is detectable by all.

The final solution can only be a patch in the forum styles that is automatically adjusting font colors based on a color matching table.
No clue if that exists for the currently used XenForo style.
Lightest Grey
Medium Grey (Blackened Standard)
Dark Grey

Checking what I posted in "Default Style" I notice that the forum in fact does shift the colour of the writing. In "Blackened" the normal text is displayed in a medium grey colour by default.
Now when I switch to "Default", the same text is displayed in black!

However, if I manually set "medium grey", this stays unchanged "medium grey".
The question now is: How do I format imported text as "default text" colour!!!

This would solve it, isn't it?

Test Grey
Test Grey back to default

Ok, found it:
When inserting text, mark it and use the "remove formatting" (rubber) left to "Font Family".
This will restore "default text" properties. So it shows grey for those who are viewing the forum in "Blackened Style" and black for those who prefer "DefaultStyle".

Hope this helps...

As a hint to the forum operators: Adding a "default colour" option to the font colour selection pulldown menu would be simple to program and would be the natural choice for anybody.

If you simply type in a post, it will appear white on Blackend and black on Default,
and will switch automatically from one to 'tother;
so grey on the colour menu (appearing as black on Default) is the 'default setting'.
Other colours appear unchanged on either style,
so most are more or less difficult to read on one or the other,
if you want to use them, please check your work is visible on both.
If you're pasting in text, either remove formatting before you do so,
or use the rubber top left as Fantasmo says.
I'll copy this into a thread on 'Technical Questions',
so this one can get back to the nice topic of Vintage Verberation! :p

Not always 'nice' - as in,
"Ohh, the tawses of my misspent youth..."
it was the thrill of the tawse that first aroused me,
the beginning of my delightful road to the Whipping Post and the Cross!

I'm really curious and most of us I think;)
