A few more backgrounds from HBO's Rome series, and a sequence where Lindsey Duncan was attacked and her clothes ripped off - partially, anyway. I did these screen caps because I thought they might be useful references for a woman struggling as she was being stripped prior to crucifixion. Maybe they will be of use to someone.

Kilwa was a slave trading outpost held by the Persians from before the time of Christ. It was briefly taken back by African chiefs in about 500 AD, but was reoccupied by Persians until they in turn were conquered by the Portuguese in the early 1500's. They only stayed for about 70 years before the Omanis booted them out. Their rule lasted until the Germans arrived in the late 19th century.
Later a few years a german protectorat/colony.

Great renders. Love them. A note on authenticity. In the first one the scale is wrong. The pits are too low to stand in, and the shelf is barely long enough for a person to lie down in the width. They used to pack in up to 70 women and children in one of those.
