Huh? Oh I was not rushing, I meant in the story itself. She is desperate to know what her sign says, because she can't see it't writing. everyone else around her though can and it's not like she has anything else to do or think about other than the pain anyway.

I guess the basic element is just the sensation of not knowing what's going to happen (as in being bound & blindfolded, and what is he going to do). But here it's extended - everybode else knows but has agreed not to tell. And each victim can figure out what is going to happen to the other ones ... very bad things or manageable ones ... but each one is kept in the dark about what her fate is going to be...
