though that fan looks far too comfortable!
but if it's a steaming hot day, getting hotter by the minute,
and she's left there staring at a fan that's not working,
it could be a subtle touch of mental torture

A classic! The population of young females in that version of Inferno
seems appreciably greater than Dante admitted to meeting in his original! :p

this one's from an even earlier (1911) version:

L'Inferno - 1911 - Acheron meets Dante.png

and this from a what looks a very entertaining Italian spoof,
Maciste all'Inferno 1926

Kill this 'Hays' whoever she is!!!!

Crucify her!!!!

What?
He is already dead? Drats!

Those are absolutely amazing Loxuru and Eul. Those early days of film drew more on classical images it seems, and weren't afraid of a little bare flesh. It's a pity it was stamped out in America by Hays.
Reminds me slightly of some of the set pieces in Prospero's Books

The movie censorship code in effect from 1934 until the rating system was introduced in 1968. Although named for William H Hays, it was actually Joseph Breen who is responsible for its often ridiculous enforcement. If Breen had had his way, Rhett would have told Scarlet: "Frankly, I don't give a darn".
They even made Betty Boop cover up.

The American film industry after the enforcement of the code has been described as "A Jewish owned business, selling Roman Catholic theology to a Protestant America."

After 1934, Cecil B. Delmille had to cut out WIP scnes like these in The Sign of the Cross (1932). Somewhat ironically set in the times of Nero's persecution of the Christians in Rome.

Harsh discipline in the US women's football team? The evening before, she missed the crucial penalty for qualifying to the world cup final.
In a moment, her teammates will start kicking penalties towards her.

Ahhhh, the old take-it-without-flinching drill. I think I would keep my eyes closed.

The Japanese, in particular, can be so precisely, so beautifully, cruel but it always seems to lack passion.

So much like their cars and motorcycles. Wonderfully engineered but Pp would rather drive or ride something something old and British or something Italian even with that underlying risk of breakdown. Even his BMW has more passion than a Japanese bike.
