You mean the expressions ? Both: There a preset, which I use as a start and sometimes manually

By which I mean the cross will not be missed, it would nice if you could extend the sequence along these lines, and in addition that’s some nicely done skin art.

I can't speak for the artist, but I suspect it was some combination of 1) no suitable shader presets, 2) no ability to make shaders or add effects in post-production, and 3) no time, desire or energy to worry about it.

It's a simple scene, simply composed, and I would guess @gun3D hasn't been at the craft very long. FWIW, it's better than anything I did when first starting out so many years ago.

It's great skin and ink, and I know how it goes in this medium. I just assumed he wasn't hitting her too hard.
