And some of them have done more than lobbying. In 2009, two Pennsylvania juvenile-court judges pleaded guilty to charges that they'd taken kickbacks from a couple of private youth detention centers in exchange for sentencing defendants to stints in those centers.

There is plenty of ugly in Detroit. It's so ugly that it's become almost chic in certain circles, with hipsters departing the unaffordable rents of Brooklyn to buy houses for next to nothing in Detroit and rehab them. And there are two murals by Diego Rivera in the Detroit Institute of Arts that rank among the great works of the 20th Century.

Naraku, i don`t know how i really chose Detroit as the place to
play out my fantasy, there are many more cities in America with
run down areas like that. I was watching a video on You Tube,
a car driving down Mack Avenue and you suddenly start to go
through an area with empty derelict buildings and mainly the
area is predominantly populated by black people. Ok, so i have
my location and the fantasy can put me into some very grotty
situations. I`m lucky i have a good lifestyle , nice home, loving

Detroit really looks like this, railway stations and all? That is profoundly disturbing, serious urban decay. I'd be looking around anxiously for the zombies!

I don't know Detroit that well, but those buildings certainly exist. The population is about one-half what it was at its peak in the 1960s, so there are certainly plenty of abandoned buildings. There has been a revival downtown in recent years, but unfortunately that hasn't done much for the outer areas of the city.

Hardly Gare St Lazare as painted by Monet, but functional. The station Naraku showed is one that obviously hasn't been used since the old days when rail travel was the main mode of getting between cities. According to Amtrak's web site there are 3 daily trains between Detroit and Chicago.
