Your Very Best Work

Hi Everybody - I thought we could have a thread highlighting the best work everybody's done on CF, for easy reference. It can be a thread for shameless, but limited, self-promotion. :) I'd like to know what the artists and writers here consider their own best work, regardless of its popularity with others.

My idea is that we can each mention what we consider to be our personal VERY BEST work - ONLY ONE work, per genre. (For example, you might mention one short story, one poem, and one pencil drawing. MAYBE a series of artworks would count as one item if they're really meant to be one whole work.) This should not be a place to casually mention everything you've ever written or drawn before coming to a conclusion. ;) JUST ONE! Choose your BEST!

To be the most useful, it would be nice to have links and/or thumbnails of the works mentioned, I would think...

And maybe every couple of years we could come back and do this again, as new works are added?

I look forward to seeing what everybody includes!

I'm not sure which work would have been my best and to be honest it changes. Sometimes I really love a story and then when I come back to it I'm like 'meh'.

Besides as a writer I really don't care which one I like the best, I care about which one the audience likes the best.

It's like my poetry. Sometimes it just hits a nerve of someone listening and they really love it when I'm not sure.

Interesting question, Juan. It may be cheating for a few reasons-first it's a collaboration with Barb and illustrations by Madi, but many of my stories fit that description and I'd hate to not be able to count any of them. Second, it's running currently and I usually like stories while I'm in the middle of them. And third, it's not finished yet and the possibility of an ending that doesn't do the story justice is very real.

But, all that said, I'm going to go with the current story "Noosed Nude NYC" as my best writing http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/threads/noosed-nude-nyc.6749/

This is a difficult question for me since I've written dozens of stories and poems on CF and each has its merits in my eyes, so I might cheat a little and categorize, Oscars style:

The story I probably most enjoyed writing and think is one of my best: Berlin Diary

http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resources/berlin-diary-by-barbaria.516/

The poem I like best is: Midnight Ride of Barbara Moore

http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resources/short-stories-and-poems-by-barbaria.400/

The short story I am most fond of, for personal reasons, is: Game Day

http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resources/game-day-by-barbaria.430/

The story for which I wrote the text for some great art is: Kartomga Terror Pit

http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resources/kartomga-terror-pit-by-barbaria-and-skatingjesus.504/

Best story collaboration: Bronx Crux Murders

http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resources/the-bronx-crux-murders-by-windar-barbaria.583/

Someone pass the envelope please?

Great thread, Juan! I've already been turned on to some good work I would otherwise have been unaware of. I'm still working on my only story so far on this site, but of the chapters I've written of "Mina Berkeley's Voyage," I think I like "Kissing the Gunner's Daughter," best.

Speaking of works in progress, did you ever get any farther along with your "Death of an Anti-Impalement Activist?"

No... I haven't touched that one in a while. :( I knew when I started it that it deserved some time, thought, effort, and length, and I knew I was unlikely to be able to stick with it for the time it needed, so I sort of rushed through it, hoping I could at least outline the story, and the result was... rushed. Which made me not feel like continuing. But maybe I'll revisit it if people still like it. (I think one or two of my mistakes may have cost me some audience members too.)

Yes, that is totally cheating. :spank:

(Though I agree with your conclusions.) ;)

What is the 'best' work, judged by the author him/herself? Whether it is good or not, I prefer to leave to the readers.

One can however look back and think about which work gave the highest satisfaction writing it? Which story drew me the deepest into it, while Iwas writing it? Scenes that left a mark in my memory, such as exciting scenes that I would like to write again? Perhaps an entire story I would like to write again?

Category crucifixion stories : this was one I had not invented from the start. A member named Hammerlock had started a story in a dystopic USA, about army discipline. Unfortunately, he had died already when I had joined CF, and he only had posted the beginning of the story. I got intruiged by it, and I asked, and got the permission from the admins to continue it. I have tried to develop it into a conflict between duty and conscience, that turned out badly for one of the lead characters. A Matter of Honour!

Category non crux stories : The Application.

My favourite among my own stories is the linkie-hunting one:
http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resour...orthern-forest-the-linkie-rug-by-eulalia.423/
though it's been downloaded a lot less times than at least 5 others (The Crucifixion of the Christian Virgins,
Interrogation and Punishment Centre for Girls, The Breaking of Faith, and Eulalia Christa seem to be my 'best sellers') -
of my poems, 'Crucifixa' has to come top:
http://www.cruxforums.com/xf/resources/crucifixa-by-eulalia-and-ascanio-pdf.444/
And my favourite story on the Forums, that I just translated -
but sadly the author, VelutLuna, is no longer around -

(I wasn't sure where to put this thread - maybe the mods can move it if there's a better spot...)
I've shifted it to Fantasy Unlimited, as that's for any subject matter - but left a permanent redirect.
