Manips By Phlebas

Ok the dead hard disk held me up a bit but I'm back in business

I'm struck by how small these older pics often are, screen resolutions have made a big difference over the years.

Still in 2002, a productive year.

ph081 wartime hanging scene, maybe she was a collaborator?
ph082 an environmental campaigner runs into some unimpressed loggers
ph083 cold Roman crux in the mountains
ph084 I like this kind of bottomless crux, it makes for an interesting picture
ph085 WWII again, this time it's resistance or civilian victims of the occupiers
ph086 a foray into bats
ph087 Taliban atrocities, and an experiment in disembowelling, not something I normally take an interest in
ph088 they didn't read the fine print? Adventure on the road for 3 young ladies
ph089 a couple of standard dungeon torture scenes to
ph090 finish off. This set is playing with a number of different scenarios

View attachment 861878 Border? What border? We crossed over into where? I didn’t see any border sign!

Excellent set of pics, Phlebas!
"Remember that publicity board for Coca Cola a mile back? They sponsor our border signs! If you had bothered to learn the local language, you had understood you were crossing the border there. But do not worry! After your public whipping, you will have plenty of time in jail to learn it from our wicked prison wardens! First lesson starts here! The verb 'strip completely' in our language is...!"

If you'd keep your passport in your bag, or some other obvious place, like other people, you wouldn't always lose it and have to strip completely just to find the thing. ;) :D

I am struck by the "old photo" look of the images. I can only imagine that 2002 posed some interesting manip problems that we don't have to deal with using later versions of Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, and the like.
Some great images there, in any case. I like these "historical" reflections. :)

Thank you Jack.
I'm almost tempted to wait until next year to start posting my old pics, as my first ever published manip was in May 2000 on the old Crux group. But I'll probably start before then :)

But first, here's one I don't think I've posted yet, from January this year. What's the background? Not sure. Perhaps these are Kurdish fighters who have captured a Russian or Syrian agent?

Hey Phlebas,

as i see right now, you HAVE already started reposting all your fantastic manips,
so please continue doing that, i really love them all because they are unique ))

Mostly i like to watch at those which show exactly NOTHING, but promise EVERYTHING
like these ones: ph059 and ph322 which inspired me to write a short story of both.

What do you say, shall i post hem here in your thread ))

I notice looking at these pics that many of my more recent manips are a little dark, the result of a dying monitor on my old machine I suspect :(
Again I am struck by how small so many digital pictures were at the turn of the century, very different screen resolution to today.

Anyway, getting towards the end of 2002, and hitting the century mark.

ph091 I don't know why the soldiers are crucifying these women, but I enjoyed creating the scene. I think it works pretty well.
ph092 This is my one and only attempt at depicting a beheading, interesting experiment.
ph093 You can see that the lady on the left and the woman second from right are each holding something very dear to the western prisoner.
ph094 Joan of Arc?
ph095 No comment required
ph096 Old Vietnamese postcard
ph097 An experiment in vore, for Deadly Illusions
ph098 Not my best effort
ph099 I'd love to know the story behind this one, I think it came out rather well
ph100 I think this one worked really well, but it's not something you're likely to find in the average illustrated Bible

The #93, #95, #98 and #100 contain clear travel warning advice for some part of the world (and #97 actually too, but for Australia).
And #92 and #94 for time travel to France (although for being Joan of Arc, #94 has too bad weather for an execution set in May?).

Boot camp mock battlefield training for the all-new, mixed-gender army. The green team has just captured a couple members of the red team and have set about interrogating them.
The woman on the ground looks very attentively to the execution. The soldiers don't know, but she will have to Judge them afterwards. They'll better take care to crucify her according to the instructions! Or they will be the subjects to be crucified during the next drill!

Some time in 2002 I was starting to feel burnout with producing manips to a timetable for Deadly Illusions. In 2003 I suffered a hard disk failure and this brought a halt to my posting manips in public for almost a decade, although I continued to play around for my own amusement and sometimes even bestowed numbers and signatures to the results.

This set has 8 files in it, two were lost in the disk failure which took out a number of files that I did not have on backups, I don't even remember what they were about. I lost a number of the PSP files too, but I was able to recover the jpegs from sites I had posted them. So, if anyone out there happens to have ph102 or ph104 please send them to me. It's possible that they were never posted so lost for good.

ph101 the classic Roman with a plastic water bottle manip that gets reposted regularly. I really didn't see it until someone pointed it out to me
ph103 a couple of
ph105 witch burning manips
ph106 and a topless stocks manip, just having fun really
ph107 getting a bit grim here for Deadly Illusions, not really my natural subject matter
ph108 white slavery
ph109 don't handle the fruit, it may bruise
ph110 I had fun adding that little detail on her rear end

ph101p.jpgph103.jpgph105.jpgph106.jpgph107.jpgph108.jpgph109.jpgph110.jpg

As mentioned in the previous post, I had a serious disk failure in 2003, although I lost very little it brought a halt to my contributing manips to Crux and Deadly Illusions, I had found producing regular pics on a schedule too difficult and I had no appetite for it. So began a long period where I played around for my own amusement but produced almost nothing that would eventually be posted in public. Here below are mostly the last of 2003, one from 2006 and two from 2007. That year also saw me move from one continent to another, so I had plenty of other things to keep me busy.

ph111 an early attempt at a classical painting style manip
ph112 these two are variations on carrying the cross,
ph113 I was pleased with the result
ph114 I liked how this turned out too, it speaks for itself
ph115 nipple piercing is obviously frowned upon in China
ph116 aid worker peril, or perhaps she's a journalist?
ph117 this is proof of burnout, my worst manip for a long time, possibly ever, and the last one to be posted before I stopped for a long break
ph118 2006 a new manip but not posted for several more years I think
ph119 2007 manip, it was posted eventually
ph120 again 2007, I played around with some Jennifer Connelly pics, this was the first of two
