End Of Day.

Looks like the Laird has invited some rather enthusiastic Saracen gentlemen to the annual linkie hunt. The wee things seem quite flustered by it. There are crosses on the hills yonder though. I dinna ken i the Saracens are playing exactly by the rules, mind. These multi-cultural times we do live in, eh?

Laird is a lord what is a linkie ? Female ?
Ah, my friend. A linkie is a young Scottish girl, who trains for the annual hunt. If she evades capture...well I'm not exactly sure what happens then, since I've only read accounts of the ones that are caught. For further information, and a good bit of entertainment as well, you should look at this:

It's a sort of first-person anthropological monograph, by our own @Eulalia , if I recall correctly. ;)

End - Horror Hunt.jpg
This is a complicated scene, which has been successfully re-interpreted as a girl hunt. The composition invites us to view the aftermath of capture, starting on the left, in the distance, and panning across to where the action stops with the horsemen in the centre. One of them seems to have spotted the girl hiding in the undergrowth.

The fleeing girl may be acting as a distraction for her companion, as she exits the picture on the right. I wonder if the birds have been added to the picture, taking flight in response to the running girl? We are seeing very good use of inserted figures, blended into the scene with a convincing sense of realism and dramatic impact. I see that Shannon has been caught, and no doubt she will be taken back up the hill to join her 'survivng' friends. Well done, GoatJr! :)

Great interpretation ... you read my mind .

ah - actually it is mentioned in the story, if a linkie manages to avoid being caught by sunset, she's a braw linkie and regarded with awe by all the others - but the hunters of course are furious and swear to use every trick they've got (and as you know, they're not short of them) to catch her on the first run next season!

Your image has 'captured' me perfectly - when the linkie is caught, she must 'hunker' to signal surrender by kneeling with her arms raised and crossed above her head. The hunters have thrown me back on the heather, stripped off the little kiltie that was my own garment, but I keep my arms in the 'surrender' position, it will be much worse for me if I don't!

Kind of a happy accident ... glad you enjoyed the pic .
