Didn't want to interfere with @Loxuru sad post above, but February 15th, this time 1971, 50 years ago, Britain formally introduced decimal currency.

I hope plenty of the Old Brits (you know who you are) can still work out the change from a pound for four articles costing ten bob, half a crown, a florin and a tanner.
The old Imperial systems of coinage and measures made us so much better at mental arithmetic than our children and this was further compounded by the introduction of calculators.
I remember helping my son with his homework in the early 1980s and his refusing to accept that I could do the calculation in my head quicker than he could on the calculator.

When I got a slide-rule in the sixties, father grudgingly accepted I could do division faster, but wasn't at all happy with the idea that the answer wasn't accurate to the last decimal place.

And as for £sd calculations, I did door-to-door sales when about 16 as a Saturday job, no till, no calculator, not even a scrap of paper to tot it up on, all on a wet and windy doorstep. Funny how the customer always corrected me if the total was too much, but they always seemed to miss the error when in their favour!

A tanner? Does that have anything to do with SPF? But I can work out the change for a loonie and a twonie...

Overall, cash is disappearing. Credit, debit, phone apps all make change for you in any currency. And let's not even mention bitcoin, dogecoin et al

Well, you can still buy a pint. That hasn't changed.

That's right, but with the slide rule we also learned to round results reasonably correctly. Try that today with someone who can only calculate with a calculator or mobile phone.

Unscrew the lid of the spacecraft first!

Then find out if the Martians can resist Covid-19.
And all the little covids will meet up with their mates on Mars and tell them they've got their best chance in a billion years now - hop aboard, come with us down to Earth!

Thank you so much. I thought I was the only one with this special (unnatural) interest in Smurfette! :very_hot: :very_hot: :very_hot:

The appearance of Smurfette, in 1966, was indeed a milestone in the series. She was a creation by the sorcerer Gargamel, who wanted to destroy the unity among the smurfs, by sending them calamity : a female smurf.

So, he fashioned a clay puppet, and with the necessary engredients from his sorcerer's book, he made her alive :

Just let me recall too, that the original creation by Gargamel was not the gorgeous blonde. That was a result of a makeover by Papa Smurf.

Gargamel's original Smurfette looked like this :

(oh, childhood memories)
