Six of his books have just been withdrawn by Seuss Enterprises for racial slurs contained within (see fourth article on this link):

Ebay, in an act of Corporate courage, has banned those six books from its site due to the irreparable damage it might cause to adult as well and young minds!

However... They still sell Hitler's “Mein Kampf,” Leni Riefenstahl’s propaganda-filled, “Olympia,” and her worshipful portrayal of the Nazis, "Triumph des Willens" (Triumph of the Will). Hey - those are harmless pieces of history, not comparable to the hateful Beastiality of Dr. Seuss.

It’s not just the Nazis whose propaganda is currently being sold on eBay, as eBay has no issue selling content that supports the Ku Klux Klan. “Birth of a Nation” revolutionized film as a medium. It is also a disgustingly racist film that romanticizes the KKK and wrongfully presents black men as inherent dangers to white people, particularly women.
The movie was so popular and dangerous that it led to a resurgence in the KKK in the United States. A work that led to a real-world increase in organized racism has multiple copies sold at once on eBay, along with the equally racist novel upon which it is based, and eBay seemingly has no concern about this.

I agree that this is ridiculous political correctness.
Yet, putting away Riefenstahl's 'Olympia' as Nazi propaganda is a bit too far. The movie was ordered by the International Olympic Commitee, not by Hitler (who was not that fond of the games, already allocated to Berlin before he came to power). There are indeed Nazi flags in Olympia, but there are lots of Nazi flags in any WWII movie after all. I see many scenes in it, that don't line up with Hitler's racial theories.

Trouble is of course, that both Olympia and Triumph of the Will are, from artistic viewpoint, among the greatest movies ever made. Unfortunately, Triumph of the Will was about the wrong subject. It is however one of the most inspiring movies, it provided lots of fragments for post-war documentaries about The Reich, and it has shown many post-war fictional movie makers how to shoot a scene with impact.

Agreed. The technique is much studied in film classes.

And while I think the whole Seuss thing is much ado about very little, the Seuss Foundation is, as I understand it, the organization that he designated to carry on his legacy. Legally and, probably morally, they speak for him, whether anyone agrees or not, so sites like EBay are respecting that as they would if Geisel himself had asked for certain works to be withdrawn. When I am gone and the Windar Foundation tells CF to delete my stories, they should do so. If they're stories I wrote with @Barbaria1, then they should only delete my chapters, which will improve them...

I don't know who the designated representative of Leni Reifenstahl is.

My European history teacher showed Triumph of the Will in its entirety to my senior high-school class (attendance voluntary). The quality of the film just blew me away. The opening scene alone is one of the great moments in film history. You see Hitler's plane flying in and out of clouds, clearly descending. Then the clouds begin to break as the plane comes below them. We get quick glimpses of the ground, indistinct, then clearer, buildings, a great medieval city -Nuremberg! As we get even lower we see action in the streets, at last, we can make it out, great crowds of men in uniforms carrying banners and marching in formation. Awe-inspiring describes it perfectly. After the disorder and economic disasters of the '20s and early '30s in Germany, one can understand a German watching and feeling proud.

Not one of my classmates was inspired by Nazi beliefs My teacher had fought in Europe and repeatedly spoke with contempt of the "Naazzis." But we all had a better understanding of what happened back then.
If a teacher were to do that today in an American school, he would never be allowed to teach again.

both are versions of epic filmmaking, the beginning of Olympia and the track and field events with moving cameras is marvelous, and I have them both!

Unfortunately, it has been removed from Youtube.
For containing hate speech.

So to sell such works of Nazi propaganda and ban Dr Sess is crazy. But as Albert Einstein said:
"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, but I'm not quite sure about the universe yet."

Hmmm.

Obviously the owner of some intellectual property, such as the Seuss Foundation,
can decide to no longer publish, advertise, or license out any work they want to no longer distribute.

But, can they 'withdraw' previously sold copies?

Does the decision of the Foundation to no longer distribute them,
make pre-existing copies an item that's unfit to trade, basically contraband, or an illegal substance?

If a private citizen, who owns a copy, is selling it on Ebay to another private citizen,
is the Seuss Foundation a contractual partner to that trade?

Would the right of the Seuss Foundation to 'withdraw' this also apply to used bookstores, a garage sale, libraries, collections?

As for Ebay, ... obviously today the accepted stance is,
that whenever a company reaches monopoly platform status,
the rule applies "it's a private company and they can do whatever they want"
... so E-bay can of their own volition, decide to "show where they stand",
by deciding to facilitate the trade of KKK or Waffen-SS related stuff but forbidding the sale of Dr. Seuss books with outdated, stereotypical ethnic or racial caricatures.

The real deal with 'right to withdrawal' of course is e-books, would we want 'withdrawal' (deletion from remote),
or perhaps unannounced 'content correction in the background' from remote,
if some content we've previously 'bought' has been deemed unfit for distribution?

Another film-making genius of an earlier generation who produced magnificent films in service of an increasingly evil regime was Sergei Eisenstein - his work - Ivan the Terrible, Alexandr Nevsky, October - remains amazing for its mastery of filming technique when it was still in its infancy, and still compulsory viewing for any serious students of the cinema. Perhaps the best known is Battleship Potemkin (1925) - the famous Odessa Steps sequence starts about 49:00, and the climactic final sequence at about 1:03:00 as the battleship with its revolutionary crew turns to face the rest of the fleet, one small destroyer breaks ranks to join her, and then ... well, watch for yourselves ...

And this is why I always tell people to hang on to their physical media. History and culture is being rewritten and in some cases totally erased by political idealogues with some sort of hidden agenda and the only way to preserve classic works, is to own physical copies.

Eighty years ago, on March 11th 1941, President F. D. Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act. The act gave 'neutrality' a new twist. The US gave the UK war material 'to lend', assuming it would be returned after the war would be over. In exchange, the UK gave the US access to its naval bases in the Carabians, and access to its colonies for trade. Side effects of the act were a closer cooperation in the field of trade, leading in 1945 to the Bretton-Woods agreements. Also crucial was that the UK gave the US access to its newly developed technology, particularly radar and the jet engine.
