Science Fiction, Fantasy & Human (& other) Beings in Peril

The hotel managements are afraid of being closed by state authorities and maybe, I will lose my job for the first time in my life twice in a year without really having anything else to do against it.
Hotels are mostly allowed to remain open, but with stringent contact rules and regulations for the restaurant (which is restricted for guests).

Most German health departments are now using information officers from the "Bundeswehr" military to make telephone calls, trying to identify & reconstruct the contacts of an infected person. They seem to have the more convincing intonation in their voices in order to make clear that this call is serious and nothing to make jokes about it.
Good idea!

On the one hand, it is nice to know that Germany is so well prepared with its "over-over-capacities" in hospitals that we can help almost all our neighbours but on the other hand: Couldn't they have done a bit more for their own hospitals during the last six months or so? The coronavirus did not come into this world right yesterday, it was more than 10 months ago and everyone seemed to hope, the situation would somehow get better during this year "miraculously", but it did not.
Something tells me that we could have better coped with such a crisis, forty fifty years ago, during the Cold War, when the military medical capacity was much stronger. In those days, we had large hospitals, in fact huge emergency rooms, to treat victims of nuclear, chemical or biological attacks. Unfortunately, they have been closed or scaled now today. But you are right, they could have done something to increase the capacity during the last half year, by considering to reuse that infrastructure wherever possible.

Yes, everything you wrote is correct. Concerning the hotels, many of them are only offering "Kurzarbeit" (= "short-time working") , which is a temporary reduction in working hours due to a lack of orders. The firm reports the situation to the employment office, which then makes up part of the shortfall in employees’ wages, or — in cases where working hours have been drastically reduced — pays out Kurzarbeitergeld amounting to about two-thirds of an employee’s recent net salary. This measure is intended to help firms through short-term economic difficulties: employees do not have to be dismissed and are ready to resume full-time work as soon as the situation improves.
The problem is that most hotel chains worldwide are making big losses this year and have announced even in Germany not to be able to pay the whole money much longer during the following months because some of them did it for almost 10 months. So, this will become a rather poor christmas in many households.

On the other hand and to be honest, I am sometimes wondering if I should be rather shocked or rather proud how efficient "my" Germany can be in comparison to many other countries - or for example, how much money the German state suddenly can pump into the economy although the German federal governments always complained before to be "so poor" and to have "so few money". I saw a report a few months ago which almost made me dizzy because I saw for the first time how absolute reliability in a state's economy also means pure and absolute financial power for and of this state.
In this TV report, a high-ranking civil servant of the German "Bundesbank" (similar to the Federal Reserve Bank of the USA) made two telephone calls via special secured links to the European Central Bank and an organization like the IMF, I think. In both cases, the German civil servant said: "Due to the coronavirus situation and its economical impact, the German government asks for an additional loan and credit line, to be paid back within three years at the usual special interest rates for the national German government."
He then told the men via telephone the special codes and the German ministries which should receive the tranches of the money directly to their German state accounts and which tranches could possibly be paid back sooner if they were not needed and the interest rates in such cases. Every payment to Germany should be made the same day until afternoon if possible and if this would be possible. The answer in both cases was an immediate "Yes!". The amount of the money was shocking for me because altogether, the sum was in total exactly "eine Milliarde Euro" which is in English "one billion Euro"! The money was on all the mentioned German state accounts one hour later!

Most states in the world can only dream of such transactions and certainly, I would like to receive bank loans so fast either for myself.

In another TV report of the day before yesterday, journalists asked a civil servant from the German Ministry of Health, how the situation is right now with free beds of intensive care for coronavirus patients.
Answer: - Right now, today, all over Germany, there are a bit more than 8.000 free beds for intensive care which can be used at any time for coronavirus patients, most of them in the federal state of "Nordrhein-Westfalen" which also has the biggest population of all federal German states.
- OK, and in the worst case, could we increase the number and how far?
- Yes, if we use all resources of the "Bundeswehr", their clinics and their flying personnel and re-activate some buildings, some older material, use some former halls for sports and all resources of the federal states, maybe we could exceed 20.000 additional beds of intensive care and all equipped with new German ventilators within two or three months but we still hope we do not really need all of this because - for example - we had already prepared some military emergency hospitals in April which we did not need then. By the way, even now, the most coronavirus cases in Germany are still rather younger people with an usually not really life-threatening course of disease. They become severely ill but they do not die. We hope it stays this way but we also hope to be prepared for the worst case, because everyone in our ministries knows now, we are really working now for the sake of this nation - and we are really working much more than ever before.
...

Sometimes, this cold-blooded efficiency of some of my own nation's state organisations and its civil servants makes me almost "shiver "and I was born in this Germany. Wow!

During the last 7 days, the coronavirus statistics are changing almost every hour because the infection rates are rising so fast. I would say they are rising the fastest in those countries which had meteorologically turned to a cold weather so that more people are now in heated rooms together with many other persons or in public transportation vehicles or trains together without much ventilation of the air.

I think, we can see this partially in the latest statistics of death cases per 100.000 inhabitants and some countries are suddenly in the first places of these mortality statistics you would not or never have expected there or only heard of when you are collecting postal stamps, e.g. San Marino (only 34.232 inhabitants but 42 corona deaths) and Belgium:

If we all do not take this virus pandemic serious in autumn/fall and winter, the infection numbers everywhere are able to explode exponentially in a very short and unexpected time as we can see now in Belgium and also in the Czech Republic.

Only 14 days of a bit colder weather and the Belgian hospitals are suddenly overrun by patients within only 48 hours.

There are the first reports about doctors and (male) nurses in Belgium who are ordered by their hospital's managements to come into their hospitals to work although they are infected themselves but they cannot be replaced by other colleagues because there are suddenly so many patients.

In less than 14 days, there will be no more free beds of intensive care for any patients in Belgium and the doctors will have to make horrible decisions for the patients.

This is how the worst exploding exponential curves of Belgium and the Czech Republic look like right now:

An overview of the situation in the most important European or neighbouring countries of Germany in German language today:

In Hamburg, there is the head office of the German company "Signify" which is usually specialized on sterilizing water for hospitals and urban public consumption by using high energetic UV-C-light. Now they are testing something to fight the coronavirus which looks a bit like from a science-fiction-movie:

Ashampoo_Snap_2020.11.18_06h49m25s_001_.jpg

This supermarket has an air conditioner which turns the air around in about 2.30 meters height and there are now 31 UV-C-light-spotlights which can kill all bacterias and viruses.
It is a test and it is not really harmless because the light is so intensive that it must be switched off before anyone is working in this height. Otherwise it could cause UV sunburns on the human skin and eye damages within a few minutes.

On the other hand, in about 1,70 meters height there is no effect and the customers do not remark anything unusual and the air in this supermarket in now the probably most sterilized air of any European supermarket.

If the tests are successful, this system could possibly be used in schools under similar conditions, too.

I always knew that these storm troopers are usually very evil guys but I thought their armored-platings had less ... hrm ... openings.
By the way: I sometimes use programs for lightening some pictures to see more details and it is often impressive how much work is hidden in the dark of such a picture:

And because I had today a free night & day spending on a lot of time in watching music videos, I would like to add here some videos of which I thought at my first look today:
"Wow, this really looks like from a Science Fiction - Movie, from another time or simply from another planet! ... And everything is somehow really great!"

The "guitar solo" at the end of this version is probably one of the best I have ever heard - if not really the best ever:

The only video I know in which Lana smiles:

And singing like fighting for you life:

This should work well, UV is pretty damn effective and has been used forever ...
but the idea of having it work only 'above head level' and circulating the air to there is new to me. I remember from lab work days, the room for working with petri dishes was constantly flooded in UV and you would only turn it off in order to go inside and do your work. The air in there though definitely smelled weird...

From the comments to this "interesting" video:

" You know you’re descending in (a bit?) to madness when you look at the 4000 degree plasma, and think “nah i need something hotter for the project I’m working on” "

But I think it might not really be a "family friendly" toy for kids ... :

Lucy knows that she becomes less human the more capacities she develops and that she cannot stay alive as a normal human being because she will always need more and more CPH4 to keep her body cells in order. So she consequently decided to go all the way to the end: She needs as much CPH4 as possible to achieve simply all capacities which are possible for her in this universe!
She asks the policeman to bring her to the arrested men with the other CPH4 bags in order to secure them in the interest of mankind.
Unfortunately, the Korean Mafia also knows where the police bought them and Lucy remarks that because she can visually filter the Korean voices out of the mix of thousands of telephone calls:

The race begins: Lucy sets the policeman aside in his policecar by snapping her fingers and starts a regardless sightseeing tour through Paris without considering any losses, only saying: "We are late in time!" The policeman: "I would rather like to be late than dead!" Lucy: "Death is only a conditional state in relativity!"

The Korean Mafia is first at the hospital where the other drug couriers shall be operated to get the CPH4 Bags out. The Mafia kills all policemen and also the couriers but Lucy arrives when they try to leave the hospital. In the meantime, Lucy invented a new way of disarmament by cancelling gravity and by throwing tiresome men through walls by snapping her fingers (how many women might be dreaming of this capacity? ;-)) :

She gets the case with all the CPH4 bags from the mafia and drives with the policeman to her meeting with the professor.

To be continued (the best pictures are still to come ;-) ) ...

Oh, "SIA" used this movie "Lucy" - which I presented here long ago - for one of her songs, so you can see some "action scenes" from this movie in her music video:

I think, I finally found my ultimate science-fiction-sex-fantasy: I am abducted and beamed up by a beautiful alien pilot woman in her flying alien machine, but the paralyzing beam does not really work with me because I am extremely intelligent and so, I am immune against such Jedi-Mind-Tricks and paralyzing beams ...

Ashampoo_Snap_2020.08.18_11h44m12s_001__ji.jpg

... which enables me to overpower the alien pilot woman in a surprise attack in order to bind her. But she can read my mind and allows me to read her one and so I find out that she observed me for a while and fell in love with the holograms of me because I am more attractive than the men of her species and as coincidental as it ususally was in my life, she likes to have sex while being partly bound.

tx1.jpg

Then, we are setting her flying "Tic-Tac" on autopilot and withdraw for some hours into the no-gravity-room inside the flying machine but the motions inside are then responsible for some of the unusual flight maneuvres of our flying "Tic-Tac" which are depicted in the following reports:

When I was younger, I collected Star Wars items, but I would really think twice before I collect this kind of ... hrm ... "art".
Here in Germany and during the last 40 years, it happened several times that the cleaning staff in museums of modern & contemporary art "misunderstood" some pieces of art and simply threw it into the dustbins, dumpsters or garbage skips. ...
And because the urban garbage collectors arrived much earlier in the morning than the museum's directors, the "art" was gone. ...

So now, there is also this modern German proverb: "Ist das Kunst oder kann das weg?" (=> "Is this art or can we throw it away?")

On the one hand, It is a pity for our problematic German appreciation of modern art but on the other hand, when the garbage collectors and the cleaning staff are no more able to distinguish between art and garbage, it is also difficult to explain if such misunderstandings are rather a problem of the low quality of modern German art or of the high quality of modern German garbage ...
