Would that be the Venomous Bede, author of The Rosary?

Side note. The Venomous Bede is Sellar and Yeatman's take on the Venerable Bede. The Rosary was a best selling novel of the early 20th century, now forgotten. The play on his name is funny, but funnier if you realise that it is a reference to a popular contemporary novel.

I didn't know that - Wiki tells me it was even made into 5 films! Like with Gilbert & Sullivan, some of Sellar & Yeatman's jokes are now pretty obscure.
