Our story's conclusion...
On Saturday, June 20, 1931 Angelica Smith was brought to the gallows outside the Paris, Arkansas courthouse to serve her sentence of being hanged to death for the coldblooded murders of Mrs. Libermann and Miss Morgan.
The state records of her death lists she died at three that afternoon at the moment the trapdoor opened and she was hanged. The intrepid reporter ‘Spike’ Sharp of the
Crux Chronicle duly noted Angelica thrashed from the noose almost ten minutes before she hanged limp from the premium French noose that closed around her throat.
Angelica’s body was left hanged by her neck until almost sunset.

The author is sad to note this was the last public hanging of a naked female criminal performed by the state of Arkansas.
There were, of course, others hanged later at the Tree Estate in NW Arkansas…
