My pleasure. Many thanks for those Stanton stories, wulf. Remember having them in print long ago but lost them.
Great post. I had a few of the Stanton pieces, but there were several I did not have, so thank you.
Artist Gene Bilbrew aka (Eneg,Van Rod, Bondy, GB,Gilbert)This is some artwork from the old Mutrix booklets from the 60's and 70's. I refer to the artist as fua, or famous unknown artist, as no one seems to know who he was. I do suspect these illustrated stories came from the UK or Europe.

I must disagree with it being Eneg / Bilbrew. I've had plenty of GB's work, and to me the two art styles are completely different. But I'm always ready to change my mind if someone proves me wrong.Artist Gene Bilbrew aka (Eneg,Van Rod, Bondy, GB,Gilbert)
I only had one image from that set (attached), so thank you so much for posting these. I had not seen them before. In 1954, broke and losing his eyesight, Joe Shuster, the co-creator of Superman, took a job providing illustrations for an underground BDSM comic book, "Nights of Horror". The drawings have, by today's standards, a quaint and demure style but they were considered obscene at the time. Shuster's "secret identity" as the artist wasn't revealed until 2004, twelve years after his death.

I also doubted for a long time, but 15 years ago I found convincing evidence of the stated position. I will try to find the source, although it is unlikely that the resource is still alive.I must disagree with it being Eneg / Bilbrew. 'Unknown Artist' that illustrated many Mutrix publications, and much of his work was copied into photo sets and sold mail order from RDF and others out of NYC in the 70's and 80's.

A sample of Eneg / Bilbrew art. He was very prolific and did indeed illustrate some Mutrix booklets, along with many others.

It's possible of course, but you don't often see completely different styles from the same artist. I know it does happen though, because I made the same mistake with Joseph Farrel, who did exactly that with at least three different art styles (and I recently was proven wrong that the art in question was by different artists). It's just very rare to not have at least a small similarity somewhere in the image.I also doubted for a long time, but 15 years ago I found convincing evidence of the stated position.
