that's true - the most painful lashes land where my bones are near the surface, especially round my rib-cage -
and they hurt all the more if the muscles down my flanks are stretched taut,
so the skilled flagellator locks my wrists well up on the post,

I like the first, too - the bird's eye view of her ready and waiting, feeling the harsh roughness of the stake against her - ample - breasts (how many more girls' breasts have polished that wood with their sweat and blood?), her heart pounding, panting, sensing the silent expectation, the harsh gaze, of the watching captors, hearing the flagellator's movements as he takes up his position to aim ...
There is something very erotic about a helpless victim, tautly suspended, flesh stretched over her ribs , breasts divided by the whipping post and vulnerable to the strokes that wrap around.
Which is worse, a rough post with splinters or one worn smooth by the blood, sweat and writhing of previous victims?

Yes, thank you! I love it when the woman is stretched taut, and you can see the outline of her muscles and ribs and vertebrae. I like to think that she can barely even twitch to escape or lessen the impact of the lash. I've noticed in most pics and vids the bondage is rather loose and the victim not particularly strained, whether in mainstream or porn. I guess most viewers like prefer it when the victim has some scope for movement; to "dance" under the lash. Personally, I think dancing in general, but specifically in whippings, is like opening a doorway to the devil, and should not be encouraged.
 
Ah yes, close ups and reaction shots, the bane of my viewing existence. If I could make one rule for current film productions, both porn and mainstream, it would be: Back away, camera people! Let us get a good look at what's going on! We never even get a look at her naked back. I can see from her face that it hurts a lot (and I think her reactions are very convincing) but damn it, I want to see why it hurts!

That is a great touch though, at the end, when the conquistador sprays a mouthful of whatever alcoholic beverage he's drinking over her back. What a great idea!

Funny you should say that -- I have been looking into methods of public flogging in 18th century Prussia as part of understanding how Doris Ritter would most likely have been treated. As far as I know, there are only two good contemporaneous pictures showing the Staupenschlag (public dishonoring flogging by the hangman) in Prussia at the time, both by the same artist, Daniel Chodowiecki. I have posted them before, but here they are again:

They are quite different in detail as to how the culprit is fixed (a whipping post vs. free-standing dangling from an overhead hook or ring), the implement (cat o' nine tails vs the birch) and extent of nudity (although I think the flogged woman would have had at least a bare back in reality as flogging was never on covered skin). However both have in common that the body is at full stretch, standing on her toes with all muscles taut. The free-standing one has the legs tied at the ankles and possibly also the knees to minimise thrashing around. Clearly, Prussian hangmen agreed with your preference!

Same way of fixing on her tiptoes as in "Dead But Dreaming" (another 18th century setting), although Amy's whipping post looks a bit weedy:

I like this whipping scene in public,,, everything is there, she is naked, she has shackles on her feet, she is suspended just to stand on the tips of her toes, she receives the whip until the blood, she is screaming (the pain must be unbearable) and she is surely innocent

I would like his place
